Inside Pets?

Back when I was married, we had two cats we kept indoors..........much to my chagrin. I have allergies anyway, and animal nap is definitely on the list. I guess I got used to it at the time, especially since my kids loved them so much. But now that I'm single, there's no way in hell I would have an animal inside my home.

In fact, I dated a very pretty girl for awhile and in her home she had a cat and although she kept a clean house for the most part, I could see that hair everywhere! It was clinging to her plants, and you could even see it floating in the air. We ate spaghetti there one time, and I actually saw a hair float right down into her food. I thought I was going to fucking lose it. Call me quirky, but that was the end of that for me.

I guess if you had a very short-haired animal, it wouldn't be too awful bad. But to me, for the most part, it's downright disgusting. You're breathing, eating, and wearing that shit whether you want to realize it or not.

Do you have inside pets? And if so, how do you deal with it?

I have a dachshund and a cat and you are right about the hair although it doesn't seemed to be that bad in my house. The cat kind of takes care of herself but we do bathe her ocassionally. She has her spots in the house where she naps and we try to make it a point to vacuum those areas at least once a week. One place in particular she loves to nap is on the sofa pillows which makes it impossible not to get cat hair on you when you sit down. We've had her declawed and spaded so she can not go outside although she will bolt out the front door I guess just to experience it outside.

Our dog is a short haired dog and while his hair is fine and short, he does shed two or three times a year. When he does shed, we again make it a point to vacuum his areas thoroughly. It's impossible to get all of the hair out that the pets leave behind but we try.

I wasn't big on having an inside dog but once the kids came along and they started wanting pets, I gave in. I wouldn't have it any other way now because we all consider them a part of our family and would be devastated if anything happened to them.

It's fun to watch the animals intereact with each other. I wish i had my camera ready everytime they start rough-housing with each other. Even though the cat doesn't have claws, she can kick the dogs ass if she wanted too.

HumorMe,
I hear ya. I do like animals, don't get me wrong. And if you're doing you're best to stay on top of things with the cleaning, it can be tolerable. And it is kinda funny to watch different animals cohabitate and "deal"with each other.
I just prefer to enjoy watching it in someone else's house. LOL

And animals need to be taken good care of, and nowadays I'm liable to be gone for a few days at a time, and no animal deserves to be neglected.

I think Pauly had a thread on here the other day about his miniature Pinscher(sp?) and how he is smart and everything. Our dog has become so intuned to our behaviour that I swear if he could form words he would talk. He just knows shit and knows when we are happy or sick.

He rules the house (at least the cat makes him feel like he does). When my wife had surgery and was off her feet for 8 weeks, that son of a bitch protected her like a first born. I told her we should nickname him "shadow".

Anyway, all in all, I wouldn't change a thing. If something happened to him, I believe the moral around the house would suffer greatly.

The make for good therapy too! They accept you through thick and thin.:)
