MONTPELIER, VT -- Breaking out wasn't a problem. Breaking back in with a case of beer was.
A Vermont jail inmate who broke out of the facility to go on a beer run was caught when he tried to sneak back in.
Officials said that Mark DeLude apparently crawled under the fence at the St. Johnsbury work camp, walked more than a mile to a convenience store, bought beer and cigarettes, and went back to the jail.
Troopers responding to a call that DeLude was missing found him inside the fence with the goods.
DeLude was serving a sentence for minor offenses. But the beer run could get him two more years behind bars -- along with a transfer from the work camp to a more secure prison
