Injury Set Back

So last Monday morning I wake up unable to get out of bed because my lower back was so stiff and sore. Got more painful each day with moving my head, coughing, talking and the worst - sneezing becoming alomost unbearable.

By thursday got to the doc (first day out of bed) - said that I strained/tore my spinal erector and that it was in intense spasms. Prescribed me Flexiril (muscle relaxer), Lodine (NSAI) and Vicodin (haven't taken any). Since being on the meds, I feel better each day with intermittent spasms and some stiffness. (Touching my chin to my chest is still agony).

Anyway, she told me minimum 4 weeks out of the gym. Are you kidding me? It has been a week and I can feel the softness settling in already. Has anyone experienced a similar injury? Am I really looking at 4-6 weeks of no physical activity?

Thanks

Good news...went to the physical therapist last night and found out that my gp was wrong and there is no tear or sprain by a dislocated sacroiliac joint. My left leg was about an inch shorter than the right when I was laying down! He readjusted and I instantly went to feeling 90%. Looks like I will be back to the gym any day now!

Thanks

Glad to hear your ahead of scedule now. I'd still not rush it though. I feel ya on hatin life away from the gym, but I know from experience, sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and take the time to get well, otherwise you just delay the process even longer.

I know - taking my time. Thanks for the help guys... I have made slow entance back into the gym. Lots of weighted dips/chins, bi's, tri's and shoulders. Staying away from legs and heavy compunds that are taxing on the lower back until I have my re-evaluation exam.

dude i hurt my SI joint a few years back.....trust me, do not rush into any heavy lifts that use your back or you'll just end up right where you started.....heavy deads, squats, rows are a no-no for a while....let it heal, you'll love yourself for it.

how much time would u gibe yourself? i have avoided everything but shoulder presses and seated shrugs - the only two that i am doing that have some effect on my lower back. however, no deads, no squats and not even sure if i should go for leg extensions. i can feel my legs atrophying!

Hi;
Activity heals. The trick is finding the right weight, intensity, rep. number, and anatomical position to do each exercise in. Working the muscle groups around the injury is super healing. I assume your diet and cycle are on target. An injured muscle can work within a safe range. Most of the time keeping it within the centeral positions of motion, light weight, slow reps, and hight reps is best. No BS here. My education before personal major injury,education continued with research after, mulitiple injuries later, rehabilitation by other professional, continued education, and learinig what others say on forums like this, have given me an insite to a long and active life.

bro the exercises can still be done and it would be beneficial to do them but at very low weight no heavy weight. The muscles should still be used if they arent they wont maintain what they are at. At least with very low weight they wont think they arent needed. Leg extentions are what might be considered with low weight but not deadlift if there is any pain. IMHO
