Inflamed Elbow!!! :(

New member
After I came off of my last cycle, I was making great gains on dumbell arm curls. After I finished, my right elbow hurt pretty bad. I must have hurt the tendon that connects to that little bone on the left side near the funny bone area. Anyhow, I have been using some msm cream , arm wrap etc and have been working around the pain when I'm in the gym. I am getting ready to start a new cycle and I was wondering if taking aas products will act as an anti-inflammitory agent? I have heard this from others, but I want to get everyone's views.. much karma to those who help :)

On a scale of 1 to 10 how painful is it? If it's really bothering you and preventing you from doing certain movements correctly or without pain I suggest resting it. If things don't improve you should get an MRI. Remember if it's mild some rest will probably heal it right up. If it's really painful and becomes a chronic problem then go see a doc. Good luck with it bro.

I've had elbow tendonitis in the past, and am currently dealing with it as well. Only one thing works: time off. I know those are the two dirtiest words in bodybuilding, but believe me when I tell you that it's the only thing that will work. I tried everything: icing/heating, ART, avoiding certain exercises, drugs, ect. and nothing helped. A significant stretch of time off where you put no strain on the elbow whatsoever is the only effective way to heal the tendon (think along the lines of three weeks at least...one week won't make a difference).

It started out that it only hurt when I trained triceps...then suddenly, it was bothering me on pressing movements as well. I kept training through it, and then it hurt doing pulling movements with my arms on back day too. By the end, it hurt if I so much as flexed my arm lightly, and hurt like hell if I bumped it against a hard surface. I am now two weeks and a day into a three-week rest period, and it's feeling great. No pain when I flex my arm, lean on that arm, or inadvertently bump the elbow.

If this sounds familiar, just bite the bullet and take the time off...training through it is not gonna work.

What motion causes it to hurt the most? How about picking up a full shaker bottle by palming itfrom the top? That and reverse curls are the killer for mine. Check out some articles on Tennis Elbow such as:

http://www.nismat.org/ptcor/tennis_elbow/index.html.

However, rest is the best medicine... apparently leasions can form and must be removed surgically if you insist on abusing it with out healing first. I also saw something on TV about a gamma knife surgery...

Carefull bro.. I strained my bicep tendon and kept working out. I may have to get a cortizone shot or surgery now cause I didn't want to take time off. My biceps are down an inch and my back is shrinking. Be carefull. Get it checked out!

A cortisone shot is a direct line to future problems. Its the single worse thing you can do. Sure it will make you feel better but you will sacrifice healing and be left in a weakened state. Check into prolotherapy instead. Prolonews.com has some good articles for reference and a doc search feature.

Well, this one to me is the strangest. It's when I bench. It's the motion of holding the bar as I bring it down. My chiropractor was trying to locate the source, and where he thought it was, it didn't hurt until he told me to hold my arm up in the air with my hand leaning backwards. He then put his hand on mine and told me to push forwards. OUCH!

I hate to admit it, but I guess I should do some time-off until its better. I'm glad I'm getting free mesotherapy to bide the time :)

i have had tennis elbo for sometime now i have been able to work around it for a while it got so bad at one point that it was hard to pick up a large water bottle anyway i did my first cycle in the beginig of summer and the pain went away.i have recently started to feel the same pain again iam about 3 months post cycle .i believfe that the anavar helped my tendons heal faster helping the problem .i traqin hard and probably too much which is why iam starting to feel the pain again when it starts to hurt i lay off alittle or use some machines you should look into what you have so you will know how to treat it there is tennis elbow which is related to the tendon on the outside and there is golfers elbow which is related to the tendon on the inside from what you described it sounds like tennis elbow i also found that deep massages to the elbow help (ALTHOUGHT they may hurt alittle when sore)i have also been using a coral calcium supp becqause i read someones post that it helped him one other thing that i know for sure has helped is an armband type of brace (i think it was called a tennis elbow brace) it pinches the tendon down on a lower point of the arm which takes stress of tendon where it connects at the elbow i was skepticqal when i first used it but now i will not train without it hope this helps bro i know how you feel its hard to take time off but sometimes you gotta do it

yes it definetley did i had no pain and was able to train ball out without a problem alos when i came foof the pain was still gone only untill recently have i started to feel it again on and off so iam being carefull but i can say for me the var helped 100 %

I pulled my right bicep pretty bad last year and took a month off from working it to let it fully repair (continued to work left bicep for symmetry reasons). However, I would rather lose a month of training a muscle than lose a lifetime because of being impatient.

Hmmm... sounds completely different than mine. For the tennis elbow classic you can buy a neoprene wrap with a large neoprene bump on it and place the bump over the area that hurts... it restricts the muscle somewhat and provides support... it works well but the long term effects are still a mystery.

Time off - RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) is your safest bet however a good orthopedic who is not knife happy should be your next stop.

definitely check out prolotherapy. rice is only temporarily effective and cortisone is permanently destructive. prolo is the only way to go if you're serious about getting it taken care of.
