ZoneAlarm is pretty good - I think it;s free. Also Black Ice is excellent...anyone who is on the Internet should have one.

Black Ice and Zone Alarm Pro are among the best and you could easily find these software on Hotline for free.
As for virus Jennifer, get Norton 2001 and Innoculate both work pretty good on my comp (never had one ). Norton does upgrade automatically twice a month I think. Again its easy to get these for free. Honestly I didnt buy a damn software for the last 2 years..... anyway just Pm if you have any questions about it.

Anti Virus software is a pain in the ass and it slows down youre system to a halt..
Best advice is to listen to what HappyScrappy said and turn off "Hide Extensions" so you can view what youre double clicking on...
And always choose download first instead of running the program from the web..
A firewall prevents users from accessing youre computer. For example if I wanted to expose a system bug and gain access to youre computer I wouldnt be able to cause I wouldnt have access to it..
Only other option is get a linuc operating system there are no viruses..
