Ive been on a low carb type diet (the zone) which has been great in terms of training, energy, fat loss and recovery. I have increased training intensity, but nothing I havent worked up to before. But recently, Ive been spraining muscles and getting muscle cramps in my calves a lot lately. Twice, I was woken from sleep with bad calf cramps, and I get them if I try to swim too fast too. Then I tweaked a muscle in my lower spine deadlifting, so I eased up for a while, but I just re-pulled it squatting today. My training has been going really well, but this shit has me stumped. Why the hell am I cramping and pulling muscles all of a sudden?

Tren and creatine can cause it. I had some studies archived about using magnesium to releive the spasms, but lost them when my computer crashed.

Typically spasms are from magnesium, calcium and potassium. I would focus on the magnesium - primarily magnesium aspartate. The citrate form of mag can cause really bad diarrhea. Potassium can be a problem if you take too much.

AAS cause you to retain calcium, and can cause cramping because elevated calcium will result in lower magnesium.

Eat some good fruit. Get a watermelon and gobble it down.

And make sure you just keep your water levels high. Dehydration really sucks in regards to cramping.

Thats the thing, Ive been taking my mineral supps, Im not on any AAS and creatine, I drink water regularly but maybe Im still missing something. Maybe my minerals arent getting absorbed, I am taking them with everything I take, al at once.

sodium, potassium, magnesium, water

I prefer time release multi vitamins and minerals......i feel they help with the absorbtion.

add more salt to your diet? At work i drink gatoraid.....or a thing called "+water". But its an australian thing....you may have something similar....like a gatoraid with no carbs

All at one could be a problem - calcium lowers and competes with magnesium and vice versa. I recommend taking calcium in the morning and magnesium at lunch or bedtime (since it is a natural relaxant).

Also maybe you are not taking enough.

I like gatorade, I know it brought my electrolyte balance back very quickly when I was taking lasix (potent diuretic) for a few days. I could feel my electrolytes dropping and I tried all the sports drinks but nothing kicked in faster than good old gatorade. But Im on a low carb diet so the only time I can really drink it is right before I workout, which I did today and I think it did the trick, Ill see soon enough. Actually, I hit the treadmill for 15 minutes hard, then I chugged a small gatorade and went to lift. I think Ill do that from now on and see what happens.

Yeah, I think you are right, I am taking them at the same time, and I might not be taking enough. I take the daily dose on the bottle. But seeing as Im almost twice the size of an average person and I train hard, maybe I ought to take more. I just dont like taking more pills but maybe Ill start taking zma at night, and increasing my daily minerals by 50%. That plus the electrolyte drink right after warming up, ought to help. Thanks guys.
