Inclines increasing flats

Ive read on a few posts here and there that doing stricly inclines have increased peoples flat bench. Iwas just curious to here some more from others about the effects of doing incline in relation to their flat bench. Has the incline press increased your flat?

I use db's on the incline. But bar or db is personal pref. I feel that inlcines offer a larger range of motion than flat or decline, thus working the chest more thouroughly.

Plus for bbers its important to have a chest thats real thick on top so the pecs dont look saggy.

So in answer to your question, incline work has increased my flat work.

If you get stronger doing inclines I dont see why your flat wouldnt go up at least a bit. Major muscle is still the chest.

Yes, when I did my most on incline around 275 5x5 I could flat bench 315 for 5 without much practice and did 355 for a single

I have found dips will kick up my flat bench max. Inclines will also just do your flat bench as the last set for a while and do dips and inclines before flat, see what happens.

Ill say this, theres definately carryover from my flat bench to incline. If I go up a few reps in flat, my incline will be up as well. Im pretty sure it works the other way around as well. My incline and flat are very close, probabally cuz Ive always worked both of them consistently and hard.

try doing deadlifts heavier, and or bend over row, or cable row heavy ....worked on increasing my flat i noticed a diff right away....

Good point. Heavy back work has helped my chest a lot too. :)

yeah clearing up those muscle imbalances does help..

i'd imagine db works up the stabilizers too, which helps on the flat bench

You know what? I've never been a big deadlifter, just squat, bench and presses, but lately started deading heavy with a new routine. This has increased my power movements up to the 350s, including bench!?! Plus, my muscle mass has skyrocketed. I don't what it is, but deadlifts really are pretty magical . . . I like incline press alot too, BTW, but I really had to chime in on the deads idea . . . It works! :)

I also have seen carry-over from incline to flat bench. Been working strictly Incline for a while now and my flat has gone up quite a bit.
