I advice adding extra oil.. But if you didn't I wouldn't be surprised if your AAS DOESN'T precipitate. It's sometimes hard to get a crystal to form.. Sometime you have to drop a seed crystal in and then it's like a chain reaction. If you didn't add the extra oil you would probably end up with a SUPER thick solution that is super-saturated with androgen.
As long as use 1-2ml of water and DON'T heat it, the AAS will stay in with the oil. The BA comes out because it would rather hold hands with water than oil....
Lipid soluble compounds aren't like water soluble compounds. Lipid soluble compounds are the ugly girls who sit together on one side of the classroom.. NOT because they like each other, but because nobody likes them. In contrast, water soluble compounds mix together because they "like" each other.
In the case with benzyl alcohol, it will come out in the water layer. If 1ml of water isn't enough, 2 will do it.
