i heard this was a scam too. the number actually RECORDS your cell for telemarketing use. like when they tell you to click this link to remove yourself from a spam mailing list, now they know thats a valid email addy and it goes on a cleaned/premium list for spamming.

There may be scam numbers but 888-382-1222 is not one of them. That is the real FTC Do Not Call list signup number.

However, you do not have to call that number to protect your cell phone. This is turning into a real rat's nest, even for an urban legend. We've got people making up crap to get people to call the number, and people telling outright lies to make people not call it. Both sides need to CHILL OUT!
