In 2008 can Rudy Guiliani....... win the republican presidential nomination despite supporting Gay Marriage and Abortion?

“I’m pro-choice." Giuliani said.
"I’m pro-gay rights,” Giuliani said.

He was recently given Bush/Cheneys main fundraiser, Anne Dickenson and he is playing to the centrist (moderate) crowd while aiming at the 2008 presidential election.

*** This isnt a discussion about gay rights and abortion ;) ,
its about whether he can win as a supporter of those ideas.

*** And the opposite idea is a fair topic, can a democrat when the
democratic nomination if he is anti-abortion and anti-gay rights?

Hell no. It doesn't matter what he supports, his star has already faded. 4 years ago maybe, today not very likely.

His star has faded some, and he's just not as visible as he used to be. But IMO his views on those two issues alone wouldn't cost him the nomination as a Republican.

Are there any demos with a shot at running for the nominee that are anti/anti?
Oh hell no. Being anti/anti on either issue would be the kiss of death for a liberal.

dude has got to lose the lisp to get mainstream acceptance.
that will hold him back

Then they wouldnt be a liberal at all. All democrats are not liberal. All republicans are not conservative either.

That is true.

Plus his whoring it up during the last election for attention won't be forgotten for a while. He wore his welcome out then.

In all seriousness, I believe that America is not ready to have a President named Guiliani.

Not exactly an American name, per say. His star isn't the issue. He's done a lot more than just be a mjor part of 9/11. His past is fairly untouchable.

He has a lot goign for him, from likability to name recognition to ability to raise funds.....

But the abortion/ gay marriage thing would kill him in the primaries.

He should get tapped for VP

non-responsive, but heaven help us if he ever gets to be president.

in NYC he did an amazing job in his first term in restoring law and order to a city run amok under Dinkens.

Then, once he had the real criminals under control, he went after jaywalkers, city college students, taxicab drivers, and political opponents with the same take-no-prisoners heavy handed attitude. spoke in scary totolitarian terms about "surrendering liberty for the sake of order", or words to that effect. Anyone (political opponent, journalist, citizen) who disagreed with him was subjected to a viscious scorched earth smear campaign.

he's basically a more competent intelligent version of bush/cheney/rove with a meaner streak.

If they were looking for a moderate, Powell would make a lot more sense.
But Powell was known to go against the GoP goose step and argue with the admin. Be hard for him to get the assistance that Bush just gave Giuliani. I think they have turned against Powell for being his own man more often they cared for.

Powell as a republican military man for Pres, with a civic based democrat type as VP on the same ticket would have my vote in an instant.
