Importance of sleep

I know it may seem as though the answer to this is obvious, but, what's the difference between getting five hours of sleep during the night and three more during the day and getting eight solid hours of sleep during the night? I know eight solid hours is better, but how much better is it. I would ask if I didn't have to break up my sleep pattern like that.

Well, I need 7hrs of sleep a day. Let's say I regularly sleep only 5hr each night. All day long I feel tired and eventually take a 2hr nap. How productive was my day when I was dragging ass waiting to take a nap? How well did I do yawning 8 times between each set of squats?

Now let's say I sleep 7 continuous hours....It seems like the answer is obvious.

The most important reason for a bodybuilder is because the most intense period of growth hormone release is shortly after the onset of deep sleep. Even more than after intense exercise.

It doesn't matter how hard you workout or how much you eat, if you don't get rest, your workouts are going suffer. Sleep is when most growth and repair occurs. Without enough sleep your body will become weakened.

It is crucial that you get the correct amount of sleep because muscle growth happens while you are resting, not while you are working out.

If you were to lift on a regular basis and not get any quality rest, your body would slowly crumble.

Weight lifting tears the muscle tissue down and your diet provides the necessary fuel and material for repair, but it is during sleep that the repair and growth process occurs. Therefore, sleep is as vital to building muscle as is your training program and diet.

So in essence, if you are getting only five ours of sleep you probably aren't getting as much out of your training/dieting routine as you would if you were getting 8 hours. Exactly how much of a difference would it make? I'm not sure anyone could put an exact measurement on that.

On a slightly different note... I thought that naps were supposed to not exceed one hour. I forget why but this is what I remember reading. It was counterproductive to go over 1/2 to 1 hour.

So maybe a 2 or 3 hour nap is NOT as beneficial. Sorry I don`t have a link but someone else may know this and chime in. I get very little sleep myself. 4-6 hours a night.

One of favorite things about being off a cycle is the quality of sleep is much better. When I'm all juiced up I don't sleep worth a shit. That's why I've been toying with the idea of short, less androgenic cycles. Sleep is way too important to me.

That's my biggest problem and the thing that really pisses me off. Gear is f**kin expensive and I don't feel like I'm getting the most out of it because of my f**ked up sleep habits. I have to get up at four in the morning but I can't go to bed to early or I won't be seeing my girl friend at all. That's why I only get four hours of sleep per night. On top of it all, lack of sleep really f**ks with my sex drive. Anybody else?

I usually wake up every hour if not more frequently. I just started taking Melatonin sublinguals and they kick ass. They do not make you sleep... but after I do fall asleep I tend to only wake up once over anyplace from a 7 to 10 hour period!

JA.... do only androgens affect ones sleep or low androgens/high anabolics as well?

Depends on the person. Androgens effect my sleep.
