Impending BA surgery

Hi All! I am one week out from BA surgery -- partial lift and implants -- going with silicone over the muscle 360cc. My PS says I will be up to low impact cardio in 3-4 days, and lighter weights in two weeks. What has been your experience? How long did it take to get back in your regular routine? Thanks in advance.

Hey girl -

I can't tell you anything about silicone - i'm saline myself. I'm also "under" the muscle so it was a good 3-4 weeks before I could even drive comfortably.

Being over the muscle you only have your skin to get used to the weight, etc. - no muscle adaptation. I also don't know what 360cc means - its really a number that is relative to your own body.

As far as getting "back into your regular routine"... take it as you feel you are ready to take it. I don't know if you were told anything about how hi you can lift your arms while you are healing. I would watch that -- you will feel pull on your chest when you lift your arms. Don't do anything that hurts and just be patient with your body getting used to the new weight and stretching. I'd also recommend getting a GOOD support bra for cardio -- strap those "girls" in there good because you paid lots for them! :) Good luck and just take it as you feel comfortable -- remember that it is invasive surgery and your body will want a little time to heal.

Again because I was "under" I don't know how much soreness & swelling you will have -- the secret to dealing with that is bags of frozen peas! (Makes great ice pack!)

Good luck!

I had unders with a full lift, termed a "vertical lift" I'm not sure what kind of lift you are getting... but the lift was the most pain for me. It took me 6 weeks to be back to normal, the doctor would not let me resistance train before then.

Everyone is different, i'd follow your surgeon's advice.

Good luck!

I had my implants placed under the muscle as well and it was a long time before I could get back to weight lifting or running. I started by riding a stationary bike because there is no impact. I think it was about 6 weeks before I could do that. I remember having such bad withdrawals from exercise that I would go for walks just a couple of days after having surgery and had to actually support my breasts with my hands it was so painful, and then let go if a car passed by:) . The first week I regreted having it done but now I am glad that I did. You will know what I mean:) .
Good luck!

I prefer the 600 - 850 cc range myself :)

You'll be fine with 360 cc silicone above the muscle. Little if any ripple effect when you're lean unlike salines. In all seriousness, depending on your size, you might consider going bigger by 50 - 100 cc's. The silicones do not have nearly as much projection as salines and will appear smaller after the swelling goes down.

Activity can be resumed in 2 weeks, sooner for light aerobics providing the implants are strapped in tightly. Light chest work in about 3 - 4 weeks. But, be careful.

Get off any thermogenics containing Ephedra a week before your surgery. Ditto for aspirin and NSAIDs.

Re: Impending BA To Wilson 6

Thanks to all who replied. To Wilson6, I have to ask why no Ephedra or NSAIDs. I take Xenadrine (one a day) and 100 mg. Celebrex. Dr. knows I am on them, and didn't tell me to stop so I would like to know what you know. About size -- he ordered 3 sizes -- 360, 390 & 420 ccs, and will decide once I am under. Before I was pregnant 12 years ago I was a 34DD. I am now a 36B and you can imagine how much loose skin there is between the size change and breastfeeding. I told him full C/small D, and he said the same thing you did about the silicones having much less size as the same amount of ccs in salines.

Aspirin, etc. thins your blood and inhibits clotting (?)

They should tell you this stuff like at least a week before you go in. If they haven't said anything, ASK.

I did tell the Doc I was on these medications/supplements and he didn't seem too concerned -- he did not ask me to get off of them. Last May I had a full abdominoplasty to remove the loose skin and stretch marks from lower abs, and they were concerned about the Ephedra and Celebrex only to the point of putting bands on my arms that said I was on the medication. I was also on the pill at the time and found out after the surgery that you have a 80% higher chance of having a blood clot if you are on the pill (no one told me that either and they weren't concerned about it.) I got off the pill two months ago for this surgery (and because it was making me ravenously hungry which I don't need!) I am going to call the doctor and get clarification on these meds.

Asprin and NSAIDs increase the risk of bleeding.

EPH can interfere with anesthesia and also alters cardiac electrophysiology. A friend coded in the OR while getting breast implants because of EPH use. Another friend who is co-owner of a gym recently got implants, the other co-owner is an anesthesiologist and told her to get off all agents than increase the risk of bleeding and EPH.

Not all MDs are informed about ergogenic aids OTC or otherwise and understand the risks with surgery.

Why take a chance?

Thanks, Wilson 6, and everyone else, for the info. I have heeded your advice and stopped the Ephedra until I have recovered from the surgery.
