Before you guys start laughing and talking shit, let me give you a little back ground..............
I have a younger sister, she was born right before I turned 16 (same parents). I was a wild and rebellious teenager and rarely home. That continued way through after I moved out, and to some degree even 'til now. So when I lived at home, I rarely saw or spent time with my sister, and when I moved it was even less. About 3 years ago, I realized that she was growing up and I needed to spend more time with her before I found her one day all grown up and beyond the reach of fond child hood memories of her and her big bro. So I started hanging out with her, taking her out to book stores, coffee shops, bribing her for good grades and things like that. Eventually I got busy, spent less time with her until I got back to the same rarely see her pattern.
She turned 12 this September, this is right at the cusp of when kids turn to teenagers and start developing either bad habits, or good traits to help them through life. Currently, she comes home from school, eats and watches TV all day, so she's a little chubster. She's also getting sassy with my mom, obnoxious toward other people and getting bad grades. So I see this as my last chance to make a possitive difference in her life. I also want to find ways to get her to be more active without forcing her to do things she might not like and most likely drive her away from these activities. Coupled with the fact that I currently don't do shit on Mondays and Wedeneasday evenings after work and get bored out of my mind (and sometimes drink), I thought the Y might be full of fun group activities and crap like that so I took her with me to check it out. I've never been to the Y so we got a tour, the place is huge! Two huge swimming pools, a rock climbing wall, basketball courts, volley ball courts, raquet ball courts, upstairs running track, an all cardiomachien room, a low resistance machines workout room a crappy weight room and all sorts of other activity rooms. I'm personally not planning on lifting there, I want to keep my mebership at my gym and use the Y just to do fun stuff and hang with my sis. They also have personal trainers that come free with your membership dues and I can use them when I start rehabing my knee, so thats a big plus.
My sister is excited about it too, she wants to join swimming and Volleyball classes. I am going to work it out with her so that she is going to do the activities I choose for her at first, I want to get her into some sort of workout program and some nutrition classes. As her grades improve she'll get to choose what she wants, improve one grade, select one activity. Maybe I'll let her choose one activity at first though, that way there is atleast a little bit of fun for her while she gets her grades up.
To be honest, I'm kind of excited about it too, the place looked kind of fun.
