WHY would anyone with her looks, money and talent (J-LO) marry a geeseball like this? perhaps he's better in bed than he looks...:whatever:

any particular reason?
Yup - his racist remarks. The one that particularly scared me was when he said that he loved his wife dearly because she is the mother of his children but she would be going to hell because she wasn't a devote Catholic. Yeah - a bit too much.

I thought Catholics go to purgatory and can work their way to heaven from there? I like that idea. I should become Catholic.

LOL. Who knows.. I'm not a fan of the religion but hey, whatever works for others.. :)

Personally I know more people who have converted out of Catholicism than I know Catholic people. LOL. ;)

Others such as your family have to help by praying you out of purgatory.

I was watching a history channel special on "hell" and apparently the Catholics have revised their dogma that anyone who adheres to the moral principles of the Bible can reach salvation, no matter what religion they follow. Sounds to me like they are selling out. What happened to the Catholic church of the crusades and inquisition?

I was raised Catholic...there's nothing new about the church's revisionist policy...like any big business, they're looking for a new demographic.

Because they married jewish people.

Religion is a joke.

People devote themselves to a religion simply because their family is that religion, but are oh so willing to give it up to make a marriage work to marry someone of another relgion.

Shows that they don't really beleive any of it.

I'd punch George Spellwin... right the fuckin' nose.

I agree with you to an extent but I do not believe all religion is a joke. That's what I like about modernity/secularism - people can choose what they perceive as their own religion. Although you are always going to have peeps who are against that.

And I always say that if it makes a person a better person to follow a religion (meaning give them more guidance and motivation to do good things), then I'm all for it. :)

To live with delilusion is ceratainly one's right, but I'd say focusing on reality - even it's not all sunshine stories - helps humanities cause in the long run.

Where's your b/f 2night? Is he at his father's again?

My ex-wife married into a Sicilian Catholic family after our divorce. I had to go through their whole adversarial dissolution process. Since you can't undue what got has ordained they go through this process to "prove" you didn't commit to the marriage to begin with.

But your reality is different from others' reality. So why would yours be the "right," one? You see? Every person has a different view about reality.

Reality is reality, sweetheart. It's the same for everyone.

Not again with reality being 100% perspective....

my dad had to do that when he married wife number 4. Imagine getting 3 marriage dissolutions through the church. For some reason they even had to hand in proof that I had been baptised. :whatever:

Because no one knows. I don't give a fuck what they say. They don't know.

Yes, it's all pomp and circumstance....and annulment, my mom went through this with her first husband. The Church simply decrees that the marriage just never happened.

My mother in law is a saint. Literally the sweetest, most thoughtful, most real person in this world. More real than any of the priests or nuns I met ever.

She's Catholic.

She's the only reason I agreed to get married in that fucking bass-ackwards organization... and have my daughter baptised. Ugh.

Makes me wanna vomit.

Here's my reality. I believe in God or whatever term you want to use. I believe that god doesn't want humans to know the truth while they are here on earth. I'll spare the details. This is my reality, correct or incorrect as it may be.

One of her friends, a Catholic, refused to sign the paperwork because she believed we had committed to the union. Shelagh was pissed..:) She even converted to Catholicism.

How do you practice it? What do you do now?

IMO, you *practice* any religion by adhering to it's doctrines. Re: what I do now...I just try to follow the Golden Rule...Do unto others as you would have done unto you...nice and simple, 'cause I'm a simple girl. :)

I'm baptist. My dad converted to catholicism. To me, it is all the same.

I was raised fundamentalist Baptist; my ex-wife was raised Unitarian. She didn't understand why a female minister performing our ceremony would be offensive to my family.

I must have been raised Baptist Light, because we had no problem with women ministers, dancing, music in church, etc. My uncle was the minister. He had been a hippy before he found God. It made for a fun church.

A woman cannot be a Baptist Minister, I wasn't raised Southern Baptist. The Bible says that men should be the head of the family and the same applied to the head of the church. Christianity is very misogynistic. Our services were fire and brimstone and traditional hymns are the only singing. For Easter, I went to sunrise service, sunday school and regular service with my mom. We showed up at 6:30 AM and got home by noon.

Whilst I appreciate your analogy, I would contend that this is an overzealous extremification which is, in actuality, unconnected to the literal subject-matter of the discussion. That is, the issues with which we concern ourselves in our daily lives are rarely as fundamental as the base example which you have provided in your analogy and their effect (the issues) on our lives has as much to do with how we perceive them personally. This is why one's attitude to life becomes such an important factor. Wouldn't you agree?

Our sermons were never really fire and brimstone, and we had women come and speak at our church. :whatever: Most of my uncle's sermons were about the love of God. It was pretty nice. We were baptist. Grace Baptist Church. We were probably just extremely liberal Baptists. No drinking or gambling was allowed, however. The catholics still had us beaten on that...lol.

If anyone really knew the truth, they wouldn't be pissed off or feel threatened that someone didn't see it their way.

We Northern Baptists are closer to our Quaker roots. :)

I agree. Thats why I feel perception is reality within a given set of reasonable boundaries. This is why attitude becomes a defining factor in determining what someone makes of their lives.

Yah I was thinkin the same thing. I'm a pretty outdoors nature guy, I like that kind of exotic experience regardless of the dangers. I wanna take a skuba dive to but I think you need a license or you can only go 50 feet deep.

wow I have a lot of celebs that need to get bashed in the head a few times
1)That Hilton slut wanna be girl..well she really just needs to be pushed down a set of stairs, no need to hit her.
2) rosie odonnel
3)Ellen
4)oprah
5)that Mrs. Doubtfire guy (cannot remember his name)
I am sure I can mention many more...However both Rosie and Ellen take the lead.

I just cant see getting personally offended by what someone who doesnt know me says - especially when they didnt say it to me. That's just his own opinion and who cares what Mel Gibson thinks? How do his words hold any weight in your own personal endeavors?

I never understood that concept of being offended by comments from a total stranger especially when they arent addressed to me personally. IMO when someone makes ignorant or stupid comments like he did, all it does is show a lot about what kind of a person he is.

Well, as I said - it was hard for me to make a decision but anyone who is that dumb to get drunk enough and make such racist remarks (knowing that it will eventually get out), deserves to be punched.

I don't really care about Gibson I was just stating that if I *had* to choose (read my first post), it would be him. I don't find that appropriate at all and while it wasn't directed at me personally, it was directed at Jews in general. :)

Mel Gibson is as big an idiot as anyone else listed in this thread. I think he is quite worthy of being punched in the face...lol.

I definitely agree he deserves a punch in the face just on the basis of being a complete moron.
