Don't get me wrong, I understand why you have banned "some" of these people, but if they come right back then it wasn't constructive.

I would rather they have their original name so we would know not to read any of their threads(if thats what we wanted to do).

George's policy is that once a member is banned, they are banned for life. Whever that is right or wrong is not up for discussion, people seem to forget this is HIS private board, and he can do WTF he like's.

He has told mods to out any banned members that come to our attention. Of course, to come to our attention someone must have done something first- so you figure it out

I think that most people, once they have been banned X amount of times do two things.

1/ Leave - because the mods keeping outing them and they are consequently banned again.
2/ Behave- and they don't come to the mods attention, so for the time being they are safe.

There's no way to keep someone out. Some people pissed me off on another board and I've been terrorizing the hell out of them. Banning IP addresses doesn't work if someone uses a dial up because your IP address changes each time you log on. Even if you have a static IP address you can always use anonymizer.

IP banning won't work period... they'd have to ban whole hosts which would really suck. Too many people have dynamic IP or IP masquerading.

I don't think anyone here could mask their IP if I gave them the software to do it.

But yeah, banning entire class C's would suck, but it's effective....

Can I make a suggestion that might help your banning problems.....

Take the "Flame Fourm" idea from triedia and make one here. That way, you can move hateful/racist/flame threads over there without deleting them and without banning people, while giving a place for those people to vent. It seems obvious that banning doesn't keep them away anyhow.

If people have 'thin skin' or just don't want to read those kind of threads, then they just won't visit that fourm.

Hell, I remember when Havoc would flame (rather weakly) people all the time before he was a moderator...... would you have banned him for that???.....those kind of attacks???.. that kind of stuff could just take place on a "Flame forum".
