with a life jacket on, would he or she float or sink? I've always wondered this.

thats wierd, i've never wondered about this.

dullboy says if you fart in quicksand and bubbles come to the surface, then it's likely you'll float with a life jacket.

dullboy says ?

heather asks dullboy to please go fart in some quicksand and post up on the results of said experiment. =-)

Isn't quicksand normally found in the desert and if so what in the hell are you doin with a life jacket on in the middle of the desert.... I know you were just wondering

dullboy would do that, if he had some quicksand to fart in. Its not an easy thing to find.

Damn, and all this time I thought, "well there are two really smart men on ef, Stilleto and Dullboy." ROFL!

in a quick sand thread too
nice work heather
I couldn't have planned that better if I had tried. Oh, the irony is sweet. =-)

the stilleto/dullboy thing, angel. Follow the bouncing ball, sexy chica. ;-)

You would sink in normal quick sand.

You must use a certain kick/swimming motion when stuck in quick sand. I thought I might buy the farm in the middle of a mega resort in Georgia. Lost one sandle, no idea how I kept the other. Awesome sandals they were.

Hecho in Mexico with tire rubber bottoms.

BTW, from now on, I'm going to call you gusher.
LOL...if that makes you happy. I have been called worse. LOL.

you know you're bored when you start thread about sinking in quicksand lol

If i could frame threads, I would frame this very here thread on my mantle.

I sunk in quicksand up to my waist when I was about 12. Once I sunk that deep, I layed down on my stomach and slowly pulled my way toward the edge. Apparently, this is what happens when you sink in quicksand, that you will just sink to your waist. Earlier this year, Mythbusters did a quicksand bit, and they sunk to their waist, then stopped sinking. I can't remember how they explained it, but I remember thinking, "That's why I stopped sinking on that fatefull day years ago!"

Funny you should ask that. I actually thought about this question when I was about 8 and asked it at the dinner table. Everyone just looked at each other. I thought of the question again just because no one ever gave me a definitive answer. As far as a fear of drowning/asphyxiation goes, I have a recurring nightmare that I'm in a car that slides down a boat ramp, and I am drowning. So, maybe I have some fear of that, but I still love to swim and dive, etc. So, it must not be too bad.

That's interesting - I wonder why that is? I wonder what quicksand is? I wonder if you dive in head first if you would only go waist deep.... :) hmmm...

Here is what I have found....

"Quicksand is basically just ordinary sand that has been so saturated with water that the friction between sand particles is reduced. The resulting sand is a mushy mixture of sand and water that can no longer support any weight."

Very interesting! Now the answer to how thick it is shouldn't be answered in this quicksand thread. That's a personal question.

lol...sorry to have gotten so personal. I'm rude like that. lol.

I saw that show too.....Mythbusters explains everything!!

If quicksand is saturated sand, then the life jacket should not work in it, then. I think it wouldn't work, because bouyance isn't the issue.

I just read - while getting that tidbit of information - that your body is more bouyant than the quicksand anyway - so as long as you don't dig yourself into it by struggling, you will float.

That is good to know, in case I ever encounter quick sand. Where is quicksand, anyway?
