If I were the Devil...

Weapon X

New member
Radio Commentator Paul Harvey's 'If I Were The Devil' essay...

If I were the devil ... if I were the prince of darkness, I would want to engulf the whole world in darkness.

I'd have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population; I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree -- thee.

I would set about, however necessary, to take over the United States. I'd subvert the churches first, and I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: "Do as you please." To the young, I would whisper that the Bible is a myth. I would convince the children that man created God instead of the other way around. I'd confide that what's bad is good and what's good is "square". And I would teach the old to pray after me, " Our Father, which are in Washington...". Then, I'd get organized.

I'd educate authors on how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting.

I'd peddle narcotics to whom I could. I'd sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction.

I'd tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the devil, I'd soon have families at war with themselves, churches at war with themselves, and nations at war with themselves until each, in its turn, was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings, I'd have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.

If I were the devil, I would encourage the schools to refine young intellect but neglect to discipline emotions. I'd tell teachers to let those students run wild. And before you knew it, you'd have drun-sniffinc does and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

Within a decade, I'd have prisons overflowing and judges promoting pornography.

Soon, I would evict God from the courthouse and the schoolhouse and then from the houses of Congress.

In His own churches, I would substitute psychology for religion and defy science. I'd lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls and church money.

If I were the devil, I'd make the symbol of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a bottle. If I were the devil, I'd take from those who have and give to those who wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. I bet I could get whole states to promote.

I would caution against "extremes" in hard work, in patriotism and in moral conduct. I'd convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun, and that what you see on television is the way to be and gambling as the way to get rich.. And, thus, I could undress you in public and lure you into bed with diseases for which there are no cures.

In other words, if I were the devil, I'd just keep right on doing what he's doing.

Weapon... where do you find this stuff? Post it for the club members!!!! They may miss it!!!
Great Post!!!!

Very interesting Shnark.

Wow, Weapon, that post was great. It's been nice reading your posts for the past week. Sometimes my urge to find out the truth and the real is so extreme that I urge to be called home. How about you? Do any of you feel that way?

I was talking to Mrs. Weapon about that last night.
I have a beautiful wife and two boy swho rely upon me, so I don't urge to be called home, but if I am called, I will go in peace and without fear.

I think I'd be afraid but I'd...deal with it somehow.

Stay the fuck out of schools...

If I were the devil, I would call people who thought for themselves heretics, and I would torture them on the strappado and with fire. I would force them to confess to witchcraft and then I would use my fire to burn them alive at the stake.

If I were the devil, I would silently consent to the holocaust, and I would brainwash people into giving my instiutions their money. I would threaten them with terrible eternal consequences if they did not do as I say. If I were the devil, I would start endless wars over religion. If I were the devil, I would make sure at least 2 or 3 of my priests were caught molesting children every year.

If I were the devil, I would turn my place of worship into one of the biggest businesses in the world.

Religion is NOT god. Keep your fucking garbage out of public schools, other than that you're free to do what you want with it.

PS- This was really not directed at you W-X, I think you're a good guy.

Thanks for clarifying, Frack. The feeling's reciprocated.

In addition to Harvard and Yale, 106 out of the first 108 schools in America were founded on the Christian faith.

Great post, sorry I didn't read it earlier, and send it to a few people who refuse to "get it."
Would have ended a useless debate....quickly.
:)

I also would like to add that I do believe in god, not anyone's version of god, just god, and I try to always do the right thing, but I do not like religion at all.

I am not the devil, but I will be the devil's advocate for a few minutes:

1. Are the public schools doing so well that re-introducing religion would be a terrible idea? After all, they are pretty lousy. Did you know that many public schools spend over $10000 per year, per child? My money dammit?!

What is so sacred about the schools?

You recently have been criticizing those who do not think for themselves. I bet you most of them attended public schools. So if the schools are not teaching them to think for themselves, then what is so terrible about introducing religion??

You cited religion as a reason people didn;t think for themselves. But there is no religion in the public schools, and still no one thinks for themselves.

Explain to me what would be so bad about bringing it back in!

Ok Matt, I have to leave in about 2 minutes, but I'll be back later and state my case when I have more time to get my thoughts in order...

What religion would you bring into schools? Yours?

Matt:

Well, Chaos took my first and best argument...you suggest bringing religion back into PUBLIC schools...

What religion do you suggest then? Christianity? Catholicism? Mormons? These are some of the most popular faiths in America anyway.

What exactly would bringing religion into schools accomplish? If we look at the past, we can all agree that religion is an incredibly efficient brainwashing technique...look how long the people of Europe were kept in the dark about things as simple as anatomy of the human body by the Catholic church? Da Vinci was risking being burned as a heretic/witch by drawing his famous pictures of the human body.

Hell, look at the perpatrators of this event, in all likelyhood, brainwashing-by-religion was the very reason they did this. Religion in the hands of man is nothing more than oppressive in many cases.

You ask what is so sacred about the schools? Matt, the answer should be obvious...the vast majority of our youth spend the formative years of their lives in public schools....schools have a HUGE impact on determining how a child turns out as an adult.

I ask you what benefits would be gained by bringing religion back into schools...better behavior? Maybe...better education? CERTAINLY NOT!

Are we going to stop teaching the theory of evolution and start telling stories about spare ribs and accursed apples, and naked frolicking humans instead?

Also, what about Seperation Of Church And State? That may not be in the constitution, but it sure is a foundation value of this great country...you say in the past, that parents should have the right to raise their kids as they see fit, and the goverment should stay out of it as much as possible...how does introducing 1 of hundreds of religions into public schools accomplish this?

PS- I think you argue with me just to see what I come up with in response. :) It's ok, I love to debate...

Suppose we brought the 10 most popular around the world in and taught someof their beliefs as an academic exercise? It can;t od any more harm than pretending they don;t exist, because clearly, they do. What they believe, religious history, include the good and the bad, etc.

Was religion keeping them in the dark or was it a lack of ability to spread information? Note that the Reformation and much of the Renaissance took place after the advent of the printing press, which put information in the hands of more people than ever. Today we have the Internet, so widespread information distribution is no problem.

You often say that most people do not think for themselves. And here you tell me that schools have a HUGE impact on how people turn out as adults. So, according to you, our schools are turning out people who are slaves to propaganda and don;t even form their own opions. Were the 6 peers fo yours who didn't know our VP eductaed the school system?

Distilling what YOU have said:

Schools influence adults dramatically.

Most adults are dumb and not criticial thinkers.

Why are schools sacred?????

I ask you what benefits would be gained by bringing religion back into schools...better behavior? Maybe...better education? CERTAINLY NOT!

Could some "religion as academic exercise"classes perhaps help people to be able to think for themselves? Maybe take a look at what people believe around the world, examine it, etc.

Right on.

Also, the separation of church and state has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court consistently.

........

I couldn't agree with Weapon more but I am also a republican all the way. The only people that will disagree are bleeding heart liberals like ryan h and looks like frackie. I think the world would have been better off if democrats never existed since your views fuck up the world and are so seemingly worthless.

Can any of you tell me why schools shouldn't teach something like religious history? Nothing has been, according to many of you, more influential in the history of man. So why avoid it?

Religion in schools does not have to mean forcing kids to participate in the practies. But to ignore the role of it in society is to set kids up for failure.

Oh well....not my prob. I'd never send my children to a public school.
