In 1942 an order was placed for the conversion to semi-tracked lorries of the three ton LKW built by Opel , Ford and KHD.The rear wheels were replaced by a simple Horstmann tracked suspension and running gear. The production of Opel Maultier vehicles reached 4,000 and during 1943 Opel were ordered to build an armored body vehicle to act as an Sf for the 150mm Nebelwerfer or as an ammunition carrier.Conspicuous smoke trails which resulted from the firing of a Nebelwerfer made it imperative for the battery to change position frequently. The armored Maultier was to give mobility and protection.A new ten-barrelled Nebelwerfer 42 was designed for use on the Maultier.Photographic evidence shows that some Maultiers were fitted with the 24-rail 80mm R-Vielfachwerfer (multiple rocket-launchers) of the Waffen SS.Three minor variations in the suspension components existed. Some vehicles were fitted with smoke-dischargers as standard. The Munitionskraftwagen were identical with the Panzerwerfer , with the exception of the 150mm Panzerwerfer 42.The Panzerwerfer version weighed 8.5 tons and had a hight of 3.05 meters.

DAMN how the hell do you know all this??????????

When I was a teen, my uncle Larry (Actually 9 month younger than I) was big into German mechanized warfare gaming. When ever we went to visit we broke out the game pieces and played on the little hexagonal gridded maps with the cardboard pieces. I recognized it as a PanzerWerfer, then did a google image search to verify model.
