Ibuprofen vs. Aspirin vs. Acetominophen

Which of these is the best to use for nagging injuries, etc??? I hear conflicting reports regarding safety of use/liver & stomach damage/etc. Can anyone break it down 4 me?? thanks

All 3 will work, just some people respond better to one than the other 2. I would recommmend ibuprofen, strong analgesic properties, and if you must drink some alcohol[a med no-no], this will be the least affected. The other 2 have better anti-inflammatory poroperties, and all 3 will irritate the stomach if used chronically. Aspirin and Acetaminophen will irritate the liver with alcohol use, and Acetaminophen will be toxic VERY quickly, so no booze here, can even cause death, according to med literature.
Another one poeple use for muscle ache is Naproxen sodium - Aleve. All 4 can help you, just use the one you best repsond to.
Hope I helped.

Ibuprofen: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Metabolized mostly in the kidneys, so some alcohol is ok. In my personal experience, this is your best best for any muscle-related pain. #1 anti-inflammatory, #2 analgesic, and 3rd for antipyretic properties.

Acetaminophen: Pretty good for pain control, but it's action is short-lived. Metabolized in the kidneys, and the metabolites are very toxic when combined with alcohol. Very little, if any, anti-inflammatory properties. Excellent antipyretic action, hence its use in fever and pediatrics.

Asprin: The good ol stand by from when I was a kid. Dose dependant action; Off the top of my head, I can't remember what is what, but you need almost 1g to (975mg?) to get into any anti-imflammatory actions. Average for pain control. Main use is anti-platlet aggregator action in cardiac patients. Should never be used for fever reduction in pediatrics, as Reye's syndrome can develop.

Naproxen is good, just a stronger version of Ibuprofen. Not sold OTC here in Canada.

Ibruprofen can actually inhibit muscle growth - there is not a lot of study info but this much is apparent - Muscular Development ran a little bit on it not so long ago.

If you can get it Diclofenac is a very good anti inflammatory - but here in the UK its prescription only :(

IMO, ibuprofen, without a doubt. I enjoy a few pints o' brew every now and then, and if I'm going to take something (say, to *try* and prevent a headache, heh) after I've had a couple, it'd be ibuprofen. I've personally seen the end result of acetominophen and alcohol----and it ain't pretty.

And for muscle injury/pain/inflammation, I can't see why anyone would take something other than a NSAID.

Big Bob makes a valid point, though. They (whoever they are) did a study where NSAIDS were found to inhibit muscle growth; I have no idea if this was post-workout, or in 80 year old ladies. I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Edit: Just realized a bad typo in my first message. It should read "Acetaminophen is metabolized mostly in the LIVER , not kidneys. Hence the dangers of alcohol and acetaminophen :p Sorry about that.

I can recommend a reputable pharmacy (Ibuprofen) - pill24.org I received the order and it was on time and the pills work great.
