1. defend americans intelligence....they are stupid!
2. defend americans work ethic....they are inept!

americans are fat, stupid and lazy. they are greedy, not hard working and have little craftsmenship.

i have been remoldeling a house and have encountered contractors from hell. the tile man has taken 3 weeks to tile a small floor and shower. and he's still not finished. the cabinet man mismeasured all kinds of shit. the floor man fucked my hardwood floor up beyond belief.

americans are no longer good at doing shit. they either are too greedy and try to rush the job and fuck it up or they are too young and inexperienced and most likely smoke pot from morning till night and cant even do a half ass job.

americans need to lose thier jobs to anyone and everyone. if we could outsource craft jobs i would be all for it.

americans deserve to lose thier jobs to immigrants willing to do it cheaper. and although from my experience immigrants' quality isnt any better at least thier cheaper.

im sick of fat, dumb, lazy and constant complaining from american workers.

they have no right to voice concerns about losing jobs, they are just a shit stain in the underwear of our fathers and grandfathers in comparison in the quality department.

I bid out some electrical work in my house...got 4 different bids, all Americans.

The guy that did the work today gave me the lowest bid, did a hell of a job, and even ran some extra wiring for me at no charge.

It's not that Americans suck; it's that you need to find the right contractors.

People get like this towards the end of their construction projects. I hope you`re almost there or you`re in big trouble. lol At this rate you`ll go off the deep end. The contractors can certainly get to you, especially their no-shows. ARGGGGG.

consider yourself lucky.

i wired houses for 6 years, and just like i said, all the guys were young, smoked dope in the morning, lunch and after work. thier work suck most of the time.

i guess im just pissed.

To a point yeah...but I research, and try to pick carefully. I learned the hard way to not just accept the subs that my GC used, and to find my own.

The thing that impressed me most about this guy was his attitude. He genuinely wanted the work, and seemed like a nice guy. There are a ton that don't give a shit.

And I don't blame you for being pissed...shit, I'm still a little irked about the concrete work that isn't done the way I wanted it, and that was a couple of years ago.

jesus christ dude, you just dont know. im seriously about to lose it.

the fucking floor guy came highly recommended from the store i purchased the hardwood flooring from. he royally fucked up 4 grand worth of solid wood. not to mention the 2 grand to install it was a waste.

i would literally be embarrassed if i did that to someones home.

oh, and i didnt mention the amount of damage he did to carpet by getting glue all over it. glue all over my fucking custom built columns.

all this craziness just started 3 weeks ago. i have been doing most of the work myself up until that point, and now i have literally lost it in just a matter of three weeks.

i hope it all comes to an end this weekend. the cabinet and tile man is supposed to be finished.

im not sure if i should even let the floor man back in my house to try and fix his fuckups. thats how crappy he is. im scared he will just fuck more shit up. im definitely taking his ass to small claims court.

thanks for listening!

trust me, i do take blame. but when someone is highly recommended by the floor store and he shows you a portfolio with previous work and we have a contract, one would think that is enough. but i have learned my lesson.

but the main point is is that in my experience, from hiring contractors and working with fat dumb lazy americans that i will no longer defend them like i have in the past on here.

I`ve learned even if you get a good job done, it does`nt neccessarily mean the guy will do a good job next time around. That`s a big reason I stopped recommending people for jobs. It`s a crap shoot, depending how busy they are, who they have working for them at the time, their greed level...

I did electrical as well and we received many callbacks for more work with little advertising because we did good work. The good guys are always busy though. It`s a catch 22.

exactly. the floor guy was very articulate, prompt and seemed very capable after talking to him. he had a nice contract that explained the whole process and everything.

the man should not be allowed to touch a tool. he is extremely crappy.

Yep...I have a buddy that used to turn real estate, and I always ask him for referrals, and just recently he told me that the guy he used to use jacked up the last two referrals pretty badly.

Hell, I waited three weeks for this guy, but I'm not in any particular hurry.

Living in an old house, I'm always on the lookout for people that can do anything in the way of repair or remodeling that I'm not able to take on myself...soon as I find me a good cheap sheet rock guy, I'll be set.

yea thats the whole thing, you have to live with it and everytime you walk by it and see it your like "GODDAMMIT!"

I'm experiencing the same thing, Everytime i hire someone you have to keep hounding them, its like having a lawn mower with no gas tank, as long as your there pouring, it will run but the minute you stop & walk away it goes dead.
People today expect to start off like CEO's & want 30,000-40,000 a Yr.

Where o where has the good reliable help gone?

Radar...that is so dead on...it is pure genius!!

Spongebob...good luck!! Sounds like you have had a very long few weeks! Hopefully your flooring guy guaruntees his workmanship and will have to eat the cost of everything that he messed up on. And if I were you I would definitely be letting the floor store that recommended him know your experience.

About 6 months ago...I refinished the kitchen cabinets in my home, designing and crafting new faces for all of them. After they were completed, I hired a "handyman" to put the cabinets up, and to do a small rewiring job for me. Both of which I could have done myself with help, but decided to hire someone, thinking the quality was going to be better... The 1st bank of cabinets were not level...and the second bank they actually dropped on the floor when installing them and I had to remake 3 of the fronts. Very Frustrating indeed...and that was just a small project!! I feel for you...hopefully it will all be over for you soon!! :)

Well, today I was the idiot customer. I talked to the electrician about replacing the siding where the meter is, and after some discussion, we decided that he'd just pull it loose and remount it when the new sheathing and siding were in. No big deal. So I pulled the siding off, and ask him to pull it loose so I can slide the plywood underneath, and he can mount everything back to the plywood.

Then he gets here this morning, and because of the way the wall is, my grand plan isn't gonna work, so it's all gotta be taken down. He clearly was not happy, and I felt bad...then I accidentally covered over part of the area where he was running wire, and had to pull the plywood loose.

It's awesome tho...I now have a switch for my disposal (I was just plugging it in when I needed it), three new outlets, new wall fixtures...damn near modern.

After all that nonsense, the final cost was only $200 more than the original estimate, and most of that was because the city decided the meter had to be in a different spot.

the floor guy....a nice way to say "salesman"*snakerattle* ...he told you what you wanted to (needed to) hear to make the sale....the american way.... you hit the nail on the head about the quality of EVERYTHING now a days .... fast fast fast now now now...the american way...everything suffers because of it ...capitalism is a snake eating its own tail ...its a matter of time ....

I build homes as an investor, and everything he wrote is spot on. People that are born here are near useless as sub'c's on jobs.

Price wise they are uncompetitive, and the work is substantially inferior. It isn't a nationality thing either. Because once the first generation takes over it is the same garbage all over again.

Well................it is hard to work in someone elses home, especially if they are looking over your shoulder. It takes a very competent person to perform well.

The worse contractor I ever hired was an illegal so that doesn't work either.

Slow down.....read up..........do it yourself.

Yea.........the country has largish problems.

thank you. now i dont feel so bad about saying it. and your right its not about nationality, i generally meant all americans. meaning if you live here and your right its a generation factor in there.

testboy, im the opposite. i like to hire the person and let them do thier thing. i like to occassionally check the progress at the end of the day.

and after the first day he had done a good job. the following day he hired what i believe were just some street corner workers that you can pick up daily for cash.

by the third day i realized i had fucked up.

as far as doing the work yourself. for the most part i do. even if it means reading and learning. i was an electrician by trade for about 6 yrs and as i wired houses i also studied what the framers, carpenter, plumbers and painters did. i would always ask them question.

with this house i did a major remodel of about 2400sqft. i gutted about 1700sqft of it. i did everything including framing new walls, building a custom shower and tub, in fact i added an entirely new master bath that previously did not exist. i gutted the kitchen and moved doors. new lighting throughout. i built the banister and rails. i built 5 custon columns in various places. i did the plumbing in the master bath including jackhammering a new pathway for the drains and re-pouring the concrete. i built two vanities with solid wood. i painted the entire house. on and on and on........

i installed 200sqft of the hardwood floor. at that point i was hit with some heavy overtime at work and would not have been abled to finish the other 700sqft. we have been waiting 5 months to move in since i was doing all the work. so i decided to pay someone to finish the floor for that reason, it became a time issue.

i fucked up. i got impatient.

yea that should have lit a light bulb in my head when he told me he could have it done in only 2-1/2 days. glue down hardwood really does take longer, its a tedious process.

i will no longer trust people when hiring them. from this point every conversation will be recorded and everything will be document.

I know what you mean. I recently had two projects performed at my house (new roof decking and shingles and a driveway) that I couldn't do myself but I kept a close watch on them to make sure they did it right. I was pleased but it cost my twice as much as I was expecting.

Anything on the inside, I do myself.

saw a contracting job go bad when i was younger. my parents decided to add a 2 car garage and master bedroom onto the house. everything was sailing along fast and furious, until the plumbing was done. once the plumber was gone, work started to slow down a little bit. a month after the plumbing was done, work came practically to a screeching halt.

towards the of the build, the contractor and his wife (dunno why she needed to be there) and my parents all sat down and got into it big time. i remember his wife saying "well, he's been having some heart problems and you knew that going into this job" to which my dad replied "DO ALL HIS WORKERS HAVE HEART PROBLEMS TOO?!"

i think they terminated the contract early. once that drywall was up, they were gone. my dad was real sick of the contractor's constant BS. i think dad was pretty lucky i was willing to help out with everything. i was 11-12 at the time. i did all the wiring with him, sanded, painted, and helped lay out tile. plus my dad jumped in during the build, as he agreed to do certain things like the wiring, insulation, and some other details.
