I want get a pit bull

I am have a problem finding a breeder in the NY/NJ area.

how do you go about this?

did you check your local paper classifieds out? That is how we got our dogs.

Look online if you cannot find a breeder in your area. I assume you want a puppy, but you can always check the rescue places as well. They are great dogs but make sure you work overtime to train the dog and spend lots of time with it. I have about 5 Pit Bulls around me that my boxer plays with every day. I watch my neighbors 2 pits for her while she is at work too. Great breed, but they do require patience, training and lots of attention.

I agree, I have 2 now and have had 5 throughout my life. They are great dogs, very loyal, smart, and fun. They are not for everyone though. You have to be a responsible owner. (Not chaining it up, not giving it attention, and not keeping it in your yard.) But if you have the time, patientence and responsibility then they are awesome! You will also experience the sterotypes. When I got my first one my parents were like "Oh my God!", but 10 years later they adopted a 1 year old female which they adore. There are so many pitbulls that people end up giving up I would look at the pound or humane society or the newspaper looking for people giving them away.
