So the washer is officially dead. Poor Crak tried everything to fix it, and it just was'nt happening.

So yesterday I am driving down the road and I see a porch sale. Well I gotta at least glance, and I see a sign that says "for sale $30 it really works". The sign is on a washing machine, so I stop and say to myself "it is probably like 20 years old, but what the hell I'll at least look at it". Well turns out it looks about brand new. I thought it was a mistake, so I ask the guy if he is for real. He says, "I am moving and have to get rid of it". I almost fell on the floor. I basically threw $30 at him and said my fiance and I will pick it up tonight. The washer isn't even 5 years old. We brought it home and hooked it up and it works like new.

I can't believe I found such an excellent bargain. Someone was definetely looking out for me that day. Hey you know it was either $300 or $30 you all do the math. I am so proud of myself. :garza:

nice.....reminds me of the time i almost scored a beer meister for 25 bucks......till the lady's husband found out she was trying to sell it :(

LOL. Should have told him, "sorry already paid my property now".

flipped the neighbor out the other night. i was working on the broken washer, and finally blew my top. i started hitting it with the flashlight. wailed it maybe 5 good times. the neighbor's boyfriend almost shit himself...he thought i had finally "lost it" and was shooting one of the dogs.

glad he didn't call the cops...last thing i fuckin need is them showing up here after the incident with Officer LittleDick

What type of washer is it? (I used to run the appliance dept at Lowe's in Bryan, TX).

Sweet story cutiepie04....It's cool that some luck came your way.

GE Model WWA8340GALAD

it's an older model, i'd say maybe 15 years old. i had done a multitude of things to it....got the one cross member back in the tracks, put the CINDER BLOCK used to counter balance it back in it's place, and then replaced 2 missing nuts on the motor. that took care of it's spinning noise problem.

it had a minor water leak before these repairs. during the course of repairs, the big rubber seal underneath became dislodged completely. i couldn't get it back into place, although i stopped short of 100% tearing the washer apart.

i used caulk, epoxy, and some Carpenter's GOOP (only one rated for rubber and metal) and still no go. i had maybe 1/3 of the seal in place with the GOOP and epoxy (fast drying stuff, only reason i used it). as i was working on getting more of it up, the dried and hardened part started coming loose. that's when i finally blew my top and realized that without completely tearing it apart, it wasn't getting fixed by me, and wasn't even sure that i could get it back together without 100% tearing it apart. i had the motor and one of the cross members out of the way while doing all of this, and had even flipped the washer upside down, put 2 hooks into the rafters in my basement, and used my ratchet straps to pick it up a little so i could manuver the guts around a little bit.

other than the water leak, that washer would've been 100% functional. the best i can say is i tried. was pretty ticked off though.

on the plus side, i did fix our kitchen sink and got the faucet to stop dripping. i'm more automotive savvy than household and appliance repair type fixit man.

It rules when you buy good stuff for really cheap.

(This deep comment was brought to you buy Grapes and Ladybugs)

WOOHOO CUTIEPIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE U go gf:)

Crak, I'm definately not a fan of GE washers. With a few exceptions they are next to bottom of the line (Roper is the worst).

my dad had the exact same washer for many years trouble free. when he bought it, he was working for GE's Areospace division. they got a decent discount on all GE appliances bought through the company directly, so he couldn't pass it up. we never had a problem with it. this washer was bought for us almost 3 years ago and this is the first time we've had problems with it.

the "new" one is a Whirlpool, i'd say 5-10 years old at the most. couldn't beat $30 for a washer....much better than spending $235 with tax for the cheapest one (and probably shittiest) we've found in stores around here.

one less thing i gotta worry about for a while.

Oh you hush! ............

He got it for $30 what more can you ask for?
For a good working washer at that price i'm a fan of any name brand as long as it get the job done! ;)

RADAR

the old one was a GE washer RADAR, thus the negative comments about it. i'm no longer a fan of their products either after learning that the dumbfuck engineer that designed it decided that a cinderblock would be perfect to counterbalance it.

I like whirlpool actaully.... getting one for $30 is awesome.

Nothing like getting a good bargain!! Good thing you stopped there!! Yay!!

I'm somehow humored to know that BBF used to be an appliance salesman.

if he would've said used car salesman, then we'd know why chicks just give him a test drive then park him.

NO all they do is take their dirty clothes off for a while, give me a spin and hang me up to dry.

not intending to turn this into another BBF insulting thread, but that was just too good to pass up.
