I recommend "The Mist"

Great movie. I read the story long ago. i think Darabont does, by far, the best Stephen King adaptations.
The monsters are great, the characters are rich, the movie is very dark.
You see alot of King's ideas about religion and politics come out in this movie. If you keep an ear out for him it is very obvious the man understands human nature to its finest.
4.5/5 stars only cause there are no tits

The ending was terrible.
Did you ever read the story?
I thought Drayton made the best and only choice he could given the information at hand. Definately a dark ending though. I wonder if the DVD will have alternates

I always thought his works were fun reads but when interpreted in cinema, it seems the climax/resolution always fell kinda flat. IE: The Langoliers, It, Rose Red. I should qualify that by referencing just King's made for tv movies.

From the trailer, The Mist looks decent.

No, running out of gas is not a believeable option. I mean he had to pass stations and places.

Now if they were the only ones still in the store and gave up hope, I could see that.

Also, another thing I didn't get... the bugs basically could kill you no matter what. If they stabbed you with their tails, if they bit you, if that "web" thing that they shot out even touched you (remember the dude that got touched on his leg?)... so please explain how they impregnant you with millions of little spiders and you still be alive?

The actual ending basically would have been the movie stopping right after they were in the land rover and saw the big ass creature walking down the road. Leaving you to ponder what happened next, as the Mist never lifted. Darabont wanted more a more definative ending so he took it to that next level. I thought it was well done. I mean I guess it would have been hard to get out to go get gas since it was possible there were all kinds of creatures infesting gas stations and so on. But I agree, it would have been worth a shot. Or at least try to change vehicles.

The impregnantion thing was never in the book I can recall? correct me if i am wrong. And i think that dude who got the acid web on his leg was just a pussy.

i never read it in the book

ending would have been sweet if they made it to the source of the mist, that government weapons machine or something. then it gets destroyed somehow and thats how the mist ends up being lifted.

think they would have had to set up a sub plot of that which would have been kind of an action/adventure of military and scientists in gunfights with the beasts and stuf
Kinda would of gotten away from the horror aspects of the film IMHO.
but def would have been sweet...:)

Does it beat The Shining?

The original or the remake?
the original shining did not follow the book as well as the made for TV remake.

Id say that The Mist will not be such a cult phenom as the shining was. Nicholsons star power was too great to ever let that happen
