I need your help, please.

So I was doing the 5X5 routine.

I just totally f-ed my knee up this weekend doing some wrestling. I either sprained, or tore a ligament. It also happens to be an old injury. The exact same thing happened. Anyways it's pretty bad, but I can walk around on it.

That is what I am working with. I'm not going to let this keep me down. I want to go right back into the gym and keep workin out. So this is what I need advice for.

What type of routine do you advise for me? The 5x5 is the way I've liked to workout for that past couple years. There is no way in hell I can be squatting or doing heavy compound lifts right now. But I don't want to be in the gym doing f-ing bicep curls and pec flys... I really don't know what to do. I'm choked.

I've still yet to go see a doctor, or physiotherapist. I can't really afford any treatment anyways. Can anyone recommend exercises, stretches, or treatments that I can do myself to help my knee heal? I really need your guys help. Athletics is my passion and if I don't figure this out I'll be monumentally depressed.

Mods if you think there is another section that his thread can fit into I would appreciate if you moved it there also. Thanks.

Wish I had something to add beyond saying that sucks, man. I've definitely got my fingers crossed that it is just a nasty sprain and not a major ligament tear. I think if there was anyway to determine what precisely is wrong, it would be easier to recommend a course of action. Any swelling, or looseness? Does it lock up of feel like it is going to give? I only ask because it seems to me the more you can narrow it down the easier it might be to think of what you can do.

All the best, and good luck!

i think a doctor visit is in your best interest. that being said. take triple doses of glucosamine if thats spelled correctly (dont go cheap) for 1 wk then double doses for 1 wk then regular doses ed forever. for that first 2 wks figure out what you can do without agrivating the knee. let the inflimation go down and the glucosamine build up the lubrication. every time you grind that knee joint the worse it gets. it is a serous injury that will eventually leed to neading a replacement if you keep hurting it.

I would at least try and go get an xray to see if you can tell what is wrong. These kinds of things you dont want to mess with. Then from there decide a course of action. Its better to be out a few weeks and let it heal then have to change up your training and not be able to do squats anymore.....

Ok well I got x-rays done. The doctor said it is most likely a nasty MCL strain. Either that or a minor tear. But he said that the only way to know which it truely is, is by how long it takes to heal.

This is strange because the last time I injured it I severely strained or minor teared my LCL. From what I was told.

Anyways. I'm already wanting to go to the gym and workout. It feels a bit better already and I can put quite a bit more weight on it. I want to go in tomorrow.

With that being said does anyone have advice as to what routine I can use temporarily, or anything I can do for recovery exercises?

.............

Just off the top of my head I'd probably do some kind of bodypart split... I suppose focusing more on upper body (which I really hate). Attempting to do some kind of compound movement (probably not squats, or really really light ones.) And also just really light quad and ham extensions. As well as balance board stuff.

Anything you guys can come up with or suggest will help me greatly. I'll probably just end up copying and pasting some sort of stupid BB bodypart split and just kinda go light for a couple weeks. And work on rehabing my knee in a few days from now. Working on that once every couple days.

i wouldnt touch leg exercises for weeks.. maybe start slamming some claves since you dont have to bend your knee to do those... just keep hitting upperbody like you normally do maybe add a new exercise in if you dont feel your getting anything out of your gym time.. but i defin wouldnt load up that knee even if the weight felt ok..

If your doctor is not sure, I would get a diagnostic ultrasound or an MRI done.

X-rays are crap for looking at ligamental/muscular injuries.

anyone have any more suggestions? I went and got some glucosamine...

I'm gonna head to the gym today and just work pecs and tris...

I'll keep you guys posted

I've been down this road before bro. A couple times.

Get the MRI.

I've had doctors assume what my injuries were and it ended up being something different causing the same symptoms in the same area. I am now permanently f'ed up in that area. I could have sued the guy but I am forgiving of the fallibility of human beings like myself.
