My friend's boyfriend owns a manufacturing plant and he needs round the clock security. It will be 168 hours per week. He is willing to give me the contract if I start my own business, but he wants to know how much I will charge for the year. I need to look this info up on the internet but I have dial up and don't know what to look under. I think generally you charge 2x the hourly wage that each employee makes and you also pick up the liability insurance so the client's company won't have to. If anyone can find detailed info on how to start your own security business and how much to bid for contracts, I will be much obliged!!!

bump.

ill find the actual info, but what you have now is reasonable, most security companies up here pay employees 8$/hr insurance is the big thing here and is somewhat costly,i have no idea on that info and im betting its different then here in canada

here you need to be licenced as does every guard and must have a uniform saying security guard on it

I reccomend this book as a good start if you think your going to do it,ill see what else I can dig up for you

info is pretty scarce out there, can you tell me the average pay for a guard in your area to give me a better idea?

im thinking a bid of around 180thousand a year isnt unreasonable ,say your paying your employees 8 dollars an hour, there are 8760hrs in a year approx so at 8 dollar an hour employee wages alone no including holiday pay or overtime is approx 70 thousand, then there is the insurance you have to pay,Ive got no idea what that would be,then there is all the paper work end of things etc. Im not real good at this end,Im more of a hands on runner of a business ,but aslong as insurance isnt something stupid id say 180 is a good bid, just dig around and see what other companies in your area are charging for security guards per hr and what they pay

I just spoke to her on the phone and the boyfriend(owner) asked me how much I would charge for the year, so I think I've got an excellent shot at it. I'm thinking the contract for 168 hrs should be somewhere between 125,000 and 150, 000 if I did the math correctly in my head.

8 or 9 dollars an hour. I would hire mostly retired people looking for a second income. They are more reliable. I need to find out how much they are bidding on a 168 hour contract, because if I ask to much, he might get offended. There's got to be someplace to get all this info.

if insurance is cheap then I think you can make it work between 125 and 150, and yes semi retired is best, there is way to high a turn over rate in this industry and college students or young people are highly unreliable for the most part.

hopefully someone else here can offer more input,I couldnt dig up much but ill keep at it

Thanks my brother. If I happen to get this contract and get others down the line, you know I'll be looking for a manager of an account and eventually an operations manager. Don't want to get ahead of myself. I don't have anything yet.

Man I appreciate that big time. I got the number to the texas board of private security so I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow. I need to find out all expenses to get started also.

I can't do this on my own with limited time. There's too much to know. I'm gonna go to my boss, and ask him if he'll help me get started if I give him a cut of the profits. He'll know I may be leaving him, but he should understand.

give your boss a set number as a fee not a % also look to find someone else you can talk to that owns a small business there are a lot of costs that come into play
