I might have a possible slight hairline fracture in spine

For a while now (2-3 yrs) I have had a lot of pain in the Iliac region of the lower back (the Iliac Crest?) and could feel my joints rubbing together and whatnot. It was never diagnosed and all of these Dr's just said strengthen your abs and your glutes, etc, inlcuding my uncle who is an ortho!

Finally, my new Dr. just recommended xrays and the lab/nurse reported to me that they think there is possible a "stable" hairline fracture of the spine (L5??) - I believe she mentioned Spondylyosis as the condition. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this?? I basically have not tapered my workouts at all, although the pain can be tough at night trying to fall asleep. My doctor comes back next week from vacation so I am meeting him then. For now, just wondering if the EF bros had any input. The nurse said it is an injury most common in gymnasts or other athletes (I'm not a gymnast). They want to do more xrays, a CT, or an MRI soon. thanks

btw, I'm 26yrs, 5'11, 190lbs, 11%bf

u need a little more info from your doc but in short, what can commonly happen is:

at L5, a fracture of the pars articularis, which is the bony bridge between the superior facet and the inferior facet on both sides of the vertebra, the part that forms the "ring" around your spinal canal. this fracture allows the vertebral body to slip forward, in relation to the sacrum / S1. that is the condition known as spondylothesis (sp?). there are different grades of severity, the condition usually will not heal so it will need to be managed lifelong, for most people this is not a huge problem. however it just depends on the severity, and they can become worse with time

your doc said it is stable and that is good news, maybe just one side is involved.

good luck with this

It's a little different, but I got a minor compression fracture on one of my vertabrae in my mid-back right at the bottom of my shoulder blades. There was no wondering whether I was hurt though, that was some motherfucking PAIN. All I did was go to a chiropractor for a couple of months, took it easy for a month after that, and no more than 3 months later I was playing tackle football in the snow with my buddies. I used to feel it alot when I would work out, but I started doing deadlifts, really focusing on strengthening my back, and I don't feel it at all. I still see a chiro every week though. She said if anything it grew back stronger. I know it's a different situation, but maybe it'll encourage you/give you some hope. I thought I was gonna be a gimp for the rest of my life when the doctor told me I broke my back. The psychological part of it was horrible.

Get an MRI, then go see a chiropractor, a good one not one of those quacks. That's my advice.
