I lost USB 2.0 on my main computer...

that I use for working with photos. Now takes a tad over 5 times as long to import photos.

Took it in for repair since I bought the 3 year warrantee.

Tech said they would likely have to format my hard drive. Said Windows is not communicating with my mother board is the likely cause. He only spent a 1/2 minute looking at it though. Easy to diagnose....the computer says there is no roo 2.0 when you try to import data.

This really bites. That computer has over $1500 worth of software on it. Some can't readily be replaced.

Fug....may be third hard drive in less than a year. On different computers.

Thats the "I just don't feel like fucking with this thing" response. Take your business elsewhere. Worst case should have been buy a PCI USB2 card and let the system detect it.

Exactly.

Buy one at Wal-Mart and slap it in a PCI slot. You're out at most $25 and you keep all your information.

I would let anyone reformat your drive unless a data backup in included in the price.

Its a pretty small computer. I wanted portability plus the best sound. So I used the one available PCI port on the best sound card. The other PCI slot was used by a really good graphics card.

Its one of those compact Shuttle computers.

My 3 year warrantee is only good where I bought the computer.

You crazy.

Seriously... USB technology was developed by the CIA so that they could log keystrokes and 'remote' view video outputs.... they got it into the channel and almost universall accepted because it provides a low cost and effective technology to consumers. But there is a price they are paying they are not aware of... their privacy.

What kind of software you need bor?

I'll sell it all at 1/5th the cost.

check your device manager and see if you can update the usb driver or do a driver rollback.
if that doesnt work, just do what has been suggested above - pci usb2.0 card from wally world

Great ideas.

I did seem to lose 2.0 about the same time that I broke down and hooked it up to the internet. I wanted to avoid this since surveillance nation is all over the internet like red guvru on someone checking out a gov conspiracy theory.

how insulting, save your protein farts up for when you pick up your gear and drop it all before leaving

that being said, most nerds dont have a sense of smell anyway, greasy bastards

Try updating your usb drivers like that gay guy said above.

I had this happen to me once and that was all it took.

I was informed there were no better drivers than what I have.

Guess I'll remove that super sound card and put in a PCI card. The sound card was tough because of the super tight squeeze. I actually paid the store tech to install it. Some things require a special tool or knowledge.

Are there flash card readers that will feed into the little firewire ports? The itty bitty firewire port that does not supple power? I have one of those ports.
