I just measured my height....

and couldnt believe the results, I have been 5'9" all my life, all my ID says the same thing, and today I was 5'8", somehow I have lost a whole inch... I'm assuming its all the years of heavy weight training, but damn, I'm only 29, I figured I would be older when this happened.
On the bright side, that makes me 230lbs, 8%, at 5'8", which means I am even bigger than I thought.....

nope, I have always been 5'9"

Well, I've always "thought" I was 5'10, just like everyone else thinks how tall they are. I've never really measured myself. But when I went to the doc, they said I was like 6 feet, no shoes. I was like, whatever. Now I got to prove to myself, take a tape measure and do this thing at home.

Did you measure in the morning? Your spine compresses throughout the day so you're shorter in the evening. One of my college buddies won Jr Nat's in powerlifting and he lost a good inch while we were in college. He wasn't even at his peak then.

Dialtone has a good point about being measured in the evening versus the morning.
It is also true that heavy lifting can do it. I have degenerative disk disease and simple things such as dead lifts, squatting, dumbell presses etc are no no's. They grind you disks together and make them deteriorate. Mine are to the point where I have been instructed not to do those exercized and then some in order to avoid surgery.. I'm only 31.
Lets hope it is as Dialtone stated.
BTW... at 5'9" 230 with 8% bf is still huge... nice job!

I'm in the same boat. When I enlisted in the USAF I measured in at 5'10" but about 3 years ago, I went in for a physical and found out I had lost an inch. I attribute it to years of very heavy squats. I'm 33 so I was right about the same age as you when I discovered I lost hight. I'm finding out it's actually pretty common among BB's, power lifters, and football players.
I started using an inversion table to decompress my spine and outside of how good it makes me feel, I actually gained back about a half an inch over the last few years. Not alot but it's something!!

K to make up for your loss :tuc:
