Kick ass! I want to fight in the novice golden gloves just for the hell of it. I've been practicing my uppercuts with 3lb weights. I hit fast, furious, and powerful. I'll feel like a bitch if I get my ass kicked.

you can do it ;)

I have some gloves i would wear when i worked my bob that were weighted.. I'd do my morning jog with the gloves punching constantly (rocky.. tee hee) before my brown belt test.. and I tell you, constantly punching with gloves on that are weighted gets so hard.

It increases your power and speed. It's just like any other exercise. You get stronger and quicker at those motions with practice. I don't have to tell you this. I came very close to knocking that dude out at the bar a couple months ago. I wonder how much damage the punch would have done?

What do you study, Ezrulie?

haven't studied in a few years, but when i did it was mixed martial arts.. a combo they called American Shotokan. A little bit of everything mixed together.

Sounds cool. I've been out of the game for a while (local bare knuckles competitions, etc.), but one of the reasons I got on here was to help get back into the shape for MMA.

Ecclectic, progressive stuff is always good. As long as it isn't Rex Kwan Do.

What do you do ? I am in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/ Greco Roman... the gayest of combos yet one of the deadliest. hahaha

I was 7 when I began taking Goju-Ryu classes. I got picked on a lot in my neighborhood in Chicago, so I felt the need to learn. I was also a very violent and hot-headed child. Anyways, a lot of what I was learning just wasn't working in school or block fights, so I went to boxing. I still box, although I have been almost completely out of the game the past 3 years.

Anyways, I boxed until I moved from Chicago, and didn't do anything but a lot of street fighting and bare-knuckle boxing into my early teens. I dabbled with Kenpo (only thing available to me) at one point, but still didn't get what I wanted out of it.

My bare-knuckle and street fights died down into my mid-teens due to my want to do well in school. I also came unto some revelations in my life (one of which was that I enjoyed violence and had a sadistic streak. Luckily, I got in under control, but still had a few bouts with it until I was 20. Its a miracle I've never been arrested or in jail with some of the stupid shit I did up to that point, but that's another story.

My junior and senior years of high school, I was exposed to Judo and Jujitsu. My roommate was studying both and we would roll on the mat and he would show me the basics. I would continue dabbling with both (but in no full-time capacity) for...I'd say...another 4 years or so. The last two years of high school and the first two of college.

When I went to college, I started out with no experience at folk-style wrestling. That lasted about 6 months, but it was a midwestern school and all the other guys had been at it since they were embryos. So I was SOL. But I learned the basic takedowns, sprawling, etc.

After that, I studying Kuk Sool Won for about 6 months, but got disenchanted with it altogether. Too Rex Kwan Do for me. But learned some interesting tumbling techniques, and was exposed to circular striking.

From that point, I occasionally worked out once or twice a week with a friend who was a black belt in aikido for about a year, and also began studying Lameco Escrima. But the teacher lived 50 miles away, so I didn't get to get into that much.

I moved out to California for about 3 months not long after that, and got to go to a Dog Brothers class. Those guys are awesome, but too extreme for me. But I actually picked up a few things while I was there.

Since moving back to MS, I studied Shotokan briefly, but it became too expensive and too far away to keep up with it. I still box and workout with friends. I teach them basics of self-defense, but I can't really claim any school or expertise.

My dream is to teach creative writing at the UBC in Vancouver and take advantage of their great teachers and schools. I visited the campus a few years ago and found the combination that I wanted: San Shou and Sambo. They teach both at the school, and if I ever get back up there to live, I will do both of those full-time and try my hand at MMA. In the meantime, I'm just trying to get back into decent shape, then start a boxing/wrestling club at the local university. I'm also going to implement some instructional vids I've recently gotten with guys in the club and try to pick up new techniques.

I would say that I'm not an expert of anything, but a sort of Jack of All Trades.
