wonderful Christmas.
My computer started making a funny noise (heat sink fan) right before Christmas so I had my nephew who knows a lot about computers look at it. He removed the heat sink and fan and cleaned them up and then put it back in and the computer wouldn't come back up.
Thought it might be the graphics card so I bought a new one for $135.00 but that wasn't it. He then took the computer back home with him and put a different processor in it and it fired right up.
Not wanting a slower computer, I bought a new and faster processor and now just waiting for it to come in so I can get my computer back together.
Seems as though as a security measure Windows XP Pro will not let you bring a computer back up after installing a newer processor and we have to zip up all the stuff on the hard drive and wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall everything. Something about the way Microsoft uses all of the original hardware and records the computer's components in order to access the computer is making us do all of that. I don't know if all of that is true but it makes sense that when we replaced the slower processor the computer would make it to the sign in screen and then a prompt box would say it was shutting down for security measures. I don't know and was wondering if that was true and an interesting question for all the computer gurus here.
I thought since I was going to do all of that, I might as well bring all of my applications and programs up to date and maybe add a few things. Don't know when things will get back to normal but I hope everyone has a great New Years.
