how about eating some salmon, orange roughy or just using olive oil on your salads. I dont htink I'd ever need to supp fat. I get plenty of it from good food.
The point isn't to supplement fats in general but DHA/EPA which are found in fish oil. It's these two fatty acids that are responsible for the many health benefits touted for eating fish. I also don't particularly care for the taste of oily fish like salmon so capsules are a convenient alternative.

I detest fish; however, the lemon-lime-flavored Health From the Sun Fish Oil is pretty good, not much burping either.
The problem with caps is that you have to take such a volume to get an effective dose of DHA/EPA, also, many caps feature lower quality oils distilled from the liver or head (in addition to the body). Contaminants may be a problem too.
