Anemia is not something to take lightly and self prescribe drugs for. There are different types of anemia. We classify them according to whether its A. a production problem or B. a destruction problem.
The first thing you do to differentiate this is to get a reticulocyte count (nomal is .5 to 1.5% of total RBC count) if your anemic and your retic count is low, you have a production problem. If its high then you have a destruction problem (retics are immature RBS that only circulate for a few days)
Now there are different types of problems that cause these production problems and destruction problems.
Destruction problems : spleen sequestration, autoimmune vascular consumption disorders (ie Hemolytic uremic syndrome, idiopathic thrombocytopenic Purpura, Heart valvular problems and more) also you can group blood loss causes under these too
(ex Colon Cancer, ulcer disease)
Production problems: are broken into normocytic, microcytic and macrocytic anemias. These are classified accordiing to RBC size (80-100 normal range)
Examples of each
Normocytic (early iron def)
Microcytic anemia- iron deficiency, Renal failure, thalasemia major and minor, Heavy metal poisoning (lead, mercury)
Macrocytic- LIVER Disease, use of Sulfa drugs
I would be concerned in your case of using juice for (TELL YOUR DR YOUR USING):
Sometype of marrow failure (apastic anemia)
sometype of liver disease or renal disease
sometype of Gastrointestinal Cancer.
These would be on the top of my differential diagnosis.
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING TO TAKE LIGHTLY AND SELF MEDICATE FOR. STOP ALL SUPPLEMENTATION AND GET AN EVALUATION BY A HEMATOLOGISTS IF YOUR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN CAN NOT FIGURE IT OUT!!
Good luck and God Speed
