i don't know shit about techno

i like the harder/faster stuff
i guess like dj dan and alec empire

what else is there that isn't crap?
i don't know the different genres or anything, so maybe you can help me out...

coming from a death metal background, I would suggest some drum and bass. I just recently came back from a sick ass dnb show with dieselboy and bad company. here are some of my faves

dieselboy
bad company or )eib(
dara
ak1200
technical itch
ram raiders
total science
kemal and rob data, konflict
teebee
raskal and klone
ink
loxy
dylan
dillinja
marcus intalex
zinc
twisted anger
roni size
source direct
ltj bukem

here are a couple of my favorite songs
ram raiders - titan
total science - wots my code
konflict - messiah
dj stratus - get hype
technical itch - dimensions
j majik - space invaders
)eib( - start the fire
)eib( - torpedo
)eib( - rush hour
)eib( - planet dust

that is mostly the bigger names, but once you start listening to this kind of music, you get to know the smaller, more undaground names/choons. this should start you off.

dj dan is a progressive (house, trance) dj, and alex empire is more hardcore/drum and bass/electronica. there is an actual techno genre that is just a constant beat with all sorts of shit thrown in, as opposed to saying techno in general as dance music.

check out these artists/dj's
claude young
richie hawtin/plastikman
sven vath
mistress barbara
stacey pullen
carl craig

I come from a metal background and would not recommend d&b (although I love it).

I would recommend Rotterdam style Hardcore - distorted as hell and fast as fuck. I don't like it, but its definitely the 'deathmetal' of the techno world.

hardcore. I knew someone would post this. I recommend Drum and bass because it is more groove oriented(at times), and with thick ass basslines and hooks, builds and climaxes, you just can't go wrong. hardcore is just pure lunacy from start to finish.

wow, ,thanks for all the suggestions, seriously
i'll e checking out this "Rotterdam style Hardcore "

the only name i recognize from champ's list is roni size ;)
he's cool in myy book

parrties are awesome, too bad they don't throw them here in southern cali anymore, due to the anti rave laws. you might want to check out www.houstonraves.com, or subcontext.com. subcontext is houston based, I believe, maybe even dallas, but I know it is in texas and they guy that hosts that site is a sick ass popper. as for the rotterdam, eww.... just imagine a .50 cal machine gun with bass firing nonstop, with some eerie noise in the mids and highs. example? check out delta 9(dont know if they are rotterdam style, but I think he is from chicago), only hardcore I ever liked.

:fro:

gabber? gawd. that is just pure noise. no skill at all. just a million beats per second with some dude screaming. then again, i ain't in high school anymore, trying to be more underground than the next.
