I am watching Shark Week

lol....no me....but several people I know very well on a personal and business level have been featured.

Give me time, I'm getting there!

I was pretty disappointed myself when I caught a few minutes the other night and it was all old dudes and no nef

I wasn't really expecting to see you on it, btw. It was mostly based in Australia, I think

lol oh I figured you didn't really. I've been geeking out on seeing friends and colleagues, though. First shark week since I started doing this stuff that I had that level of connection.

Ebony....powerful in what way?

You can think of it in terms of speed...the size of prey they take down....general size/ability to do damage just by bumping.

If you think power in terms of speed....a blue marlin. In terms of ability to do serious bodily damage and a reputation for unprovoked aggression....Bull shark. In terms of size...probably a tiger shark.

I'm going to try and add Great white shark to that list this fall.

I just looked at the one you posted on facebook and I think that's actually the one I watched part of. It was about Jaws and if there's really rogue sharks.

Does ur heart start to race, adrenalin pumping, pulse pounding, no fear? I have so much respect and admiration for being able to do this....and envy and bit of jealousy in there as well. No way I have enough courage to play with sharks.

Yep, that was it. My people were all over that haha, in front of and behind the camera. I made my parents and sister's family all watch it with me.

I'm definitely not completely fearless.

But it varies species to species, day to day. I never initiate any sort of direct interaction and I give plenty of space. As a result, the vast majority of the time the sharks will keep to themselves, opting to stay clear of the weird bubbly thing (aka a scuba diver) that is unrecognizable by look, movement, or smell. No fear in these situations, which is almost always what I encounter.

I've met a few very social nurse sharks, but as they are essentially harmless, it never made me nervous.

I've had my local sand tiger sharks (pictured in my avatar) occasionally get very curious about me, particularly the younger males. It never leads to anything other than them getting a closer look (within a foot or two before veering away), but the sight of a 5-6 foot shark making a beeline directly toward me is always going to send my heart racing.

I've met a couple of social tiger sharks who are accustomed to seeing divers and have no history of aggressive behavior, so I wasn't too nervous. Mostly awed.

Essentially, I love being able to share the same space as them and observe them in their natural habitat, but I think I have a healthy respect for the fact that I'm feet from a wild apex predator with nothing separating us.

Come to San Diego. We seem to be getting our fair share of them.

The best white shark diving in the world is Guadalupe island, and charters leave from San Diego. That season is fully booked and expensive as hell though, and I don't have the free hookup. If I do it, it will be late fall in San Fran. Daily charters are like 800, but I know the owners so I can dive for free and stay at their house.

I will be out in SD a couple times in the next 6 weeks though...hopefully do some shore diving while I'm there.

Been there many times. We've got a place in Baja Malibu, Rosarito.

I've got a couple buddies at work that went in on a boat together, and one of them takes us out to Guadalupe Islands all time. We go fishing out there.

Sightings are sporadic unless you have a permit to hang bait, but the water out there, as I'm sure you're aware, is unreal as far as visibility and color. I'm jealous.

Ultimately I want to do a trip out there, but I need to wedge myself a little further into the industry so I can at least get a discount. I get too much free/heavily discounted diving now to be able to stomach spending 3500 on a four day charter.

I saw some Guy get his leg eaten and another get his arm swallowed last night I did not feel bad.

About a 10-15 years ago, I used to go snorkeling in Children's Pool (before the Seal's took it over) and there were always sharks around. They kind of looked like great white's, but I have no clue what they really were. It was pretty cool down there because the seals and dolphins would all come check you out, and they'd stick around like they were going to protect us from sharks or something.

I'm watching fart week and woody is the main character

Guadalupe, hubby's dream is to go there one day but yeah as you mentioned it's not just something you up and do just like that, I've been seeing the shark expedition show from discovery channel, the one where they "fish" a shark then take samples and put him back in, Pdaddy/Paul Walker is on it, interesting stuff, been watching since first season
