Hypothryoid + synthroid

I just got my lab tests back, and my doc says I am hypothyroid. Didn't expect this. He put me on 75mcg of Synthroid (T-4).

Regarding Bodybuilding + body composition, and long-term effects, what can I expect?

My drive in life is bodybuilding, and so I am quite concerned about what effect hypothryoid and taking this medication may have. Can anyone please give me some insight. Im quite concerned.

synthroid basically is synthetic thyroid hormone. So you could expect all the effects of having an increased metabolism. do you have any signs or symptoms of being hypothyroid...tired? difficulty losing weight? dry cold skin? etc....?

Well I am always fatigued, and always seemed to have a little extra fat around my mid-section, but over-all I dont have a hard time leaning up when I want to. Will taking synthroid make it easier to maintain a lean body if I am hypothyroid?

One thing I am really concerned about is catabolism, will synthroid have any effect on muscle loss? Can it make it more difficult to gain muscle?

I believe it could encourage catabolism, but only if you take too much. Presumably your endo is monitoring your blood levels to make certain they stay within the normal range, so your shouldnt have that problem.

I'm actually hyperthyroid and I'm always wide awake. If I can sleep 4 hours uninterrupted I'm delighted. So far though I havent noticed any muscle loss.

I am also hypothyroid and on 100mcg of Synthroid. Taking the hormone will bring you back into a normal range and getting leaner will definitely be easier, but not drastically so. Catabolism is not really a concern as you are not supplementing a normally functioning thyroid gland with even more thyroid hormone. 75mcg isn't much, so your thyroid is still functioning at a decent level. Good luck to a fellow hypo bro.

You will find that you have an easier time losing that fat around your midsection.

It shouldn't do anything to your muscle gains (usually). Just watch your weight and muscle size. You may have to increase calories to compensate for the increased metabolism.
