I recently read a thread on here a guy posted about his shoulders being hunched over and his problem made me think of my own similiar situation and wanting to see if anyone else had it or knew how to fix it. My upper back used to have a bad hunch to it back in highschool. It wasn't from doing to much flat bench because I didn't work out alot back then, rather I think it was from me walking around with my head down all the time. I guess I had low self esteem or didn't like crowds but I did it all of the time at school.... but I didn't even notice I was doing it until people started messing with me about it and then I noticed how my entire upper back had a bent over look to it. Since then I've become more concious of walking up straight and I've done a few things to try to straighten my back out. The problem isn't nearly what it used to be, and I'm able to make my back appear straight when just standing there. But I can still bend over parrallel and drop my arms completely, and when I do, this hump is bulging out of the center of my upper back. It's almost like the tendons that are suppossed to keep my lats on track with my middle back aren't there or something. My shoulders also have the slight overbent look to them. I think that my lower back comes in to far and this causes the upper back to stick out to far instead of being in a straight line. Kinda like a question mark shape. I must admit that when I did start weight training seriously, I did neglect my back for the first few years and flat bench was the most important exercise to me. But over the last few years, my back has actually became my strong point. It's what I get compliments on, and it's what people ask me for advice about in the gym on how to improve their own back development. My back is very big now compared to my chest (which bothers me), but I'm kinda concerned that some of this size is due to a slight deformaty rather than muscle development. When I deadlift... it's more a stiff legged style because it's the only way I can generate power, and when I squat, I can't keep my back straight... even if only trying to do so with my bodyweight...... my heels will come of the ground and it'll feel as if I'm gonna tip over. Also, when I go to pull on deadlift, that horrid looking hump bulges out as I pull up..... this also shows when I do bent over BB rows once my back gets fatigued. According to what I've found online, this condition is called a "kyphosis". It bothers me a great deal because I don't wanna do all this hard work to get my body perfect and still have a back that looks hunched when I'm not conciously thinking about keeping it straight. If anyone can offer any advice, I'd sure appreciate it. This is my last resort before going and paying out the ass for a chiropractor to take a look at it and give me his opinion. Thanx !
