What he means by this is, when Thomas Jefferson wrote in The Declaration of Independence, he said ” We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”. I also assume you would find it ironic these words were written by a slave holder. One of the reasons Jefferson is my favorite founder is the fact he was a brilliant and complex man but still just a politician.
