Usually the documentaries themselves are cool, and the narrators are good actors

but the "experts" are often such blowhards it's like WTF is the point of this guy spewing this trash?

I watched one today about the first guy to ever drive a car cross country. I thought it was pretty cool. It was some doctor in 1903. Took him 72 days.

Oh yeah, try sitting in an auditorium listening to some egghead read his paper word for word, monotone for 40 minutes (and he's foreign with poor english to boot). It gives you a good idea of the culture the guy came from. I swear the "hard sciences" should have a mandatory class on public speaking!
