this is just a question that came to mind... i used to be a descent swimmer, but as i've gotten bigger i seem to become worse and worse as a swimmer. i can tread water and then take a deep breath and if im still i'll sink to the bottom on 2 lungs full of air. im not in danger of drowning or anything, but i can wear myself out just trying to stay afloat.

i was thinking this may be due to the fact that i've just gotten more dense and since muscle is more dense than fat, maybe i just don't have the same bouyancy i once had.

so, how many of you guys are big/lean and still have no problem swimming?

I used to swim like a fish, but not anymore. I dont even float in the ocean anymore, I have to really work at keeping my head above water now. 2 things I have learned as I have gotten bigger, gravity and water are no longer my friends.

I can swim ok. I can keep myself from drowning and swim to where I need to go, but have never been able to do the standard freestyle stroke due to poor range of motion in my shoulders. When I was little I could lay still and float. Now I sink like a rock if I don't activly keep myself afloat.

And you are keeping your post from being deleted or moved because you use anabolics to improve your swimming performance?
He's directing this to bodybuilders.

BTW, this board is not for the discussion of anabolics only. "A forum for anything related to bodybuilding."

Damn, I thought it was just me! I noticed this this year while at a waterpark. I used to be an excellent swimmer, once swam in a fund raiser for the special olympics. I went in to the wavepool recently & thougth I was going to drown trying to keep myself afloat. Went I did try to swim I hurt one of my traps. I was shocked, what the fuck! Is this do to having more dense bodyweight? I am 6'5" & used to be very thin when I swam a lot. I wonder how this will affect my scuba diving, I haven't been in about 4yrs.

Muscle is too dense to float so not being able to float is a combination or more muscle mass and less bodyfat (which is very boyant), end result is you have to powerswim or sink :(

Funny ...

That is a funny thread... I am actually a diver. In diving, especially when wearing think neoprene suits, the diver tends to be very buoyant (sp) and normally needs added weight to help him/her sink. When I go diving now, I noticed I use hardly any weight at all (even with very think suits), and tend to fill my BCD (air vest) to capacity to keep me afloat. The dive instructors I dove with laugh their asses off... They said they have never seen anything quite like it.... Jus thought I would share.

That's what I was wondering, I used to dive with several shot bags on myhips. I may not need them anymore. Thank od I spent the extra money on a good BCD vest

I can swim like you wouldn't believe. When people see me swim they say, "WOW! Look at him go. He makes me have to masturbate right away!" It's strange really now that I think about it, I seem to make most people have to masturbate right away in most situations. They don't even seem overly attracted to me, they just HAVE to do it.
Anyway, masturbating aside, I'm a superb swimmer. Superb.

Nathan= 2 words ( Deranged pervert)

Now about swimming ,I told my wife when we were fishing the other day if i fall off this boat you better throw me a lifejacket because i dont know if i could swim to the bank, which was only 25' away and she agrees.

I sink like a fucking rock.

It really sucks. I want to get my diving certification, but I couldn't tread water for ten fucking minutes. I can walk on my hands and do backflips, but I can't tread water for ten minutes.

I took my swim test with a fat chick and a ten year old boy, and I was bested by both. Fat chicks can, but I can't. It's really embarassing, and it will probably never change.

Actually, she was one of the fat chicks masturbating to thoughts of nathan now that I think about it. She was frothy and gross, but man could she swim.

Oh well, at least I'm still fast a shit above water.

Oh , I forgot...

This item needs to be added to the Standard EF Member profile..

I'm so huge, ripped and dense I can't even swim

heh! im glad everyone's getting a kick out of this thread. i've got 2 buddies that i hang out with and one is about 145lb stick man and the other is probably 210lbs at 20%bf both of which can out swim me... they always give me shit, but now i can tell them why i have trouble and they don't ;)

although I bodyboard

I don't swim very well, but I can float...

I was a swimmer up until I was done with high school. Racing and synchronized. I'm less clumsy in the water than I am on land.

not very well. when i was skinny

can just about do it now. but i stick to the shallow end just to be sure. i dont swim very often ya see :)

that's you? damm you, nice barrel.

I bodyboard too, got a bz, it's fun as hell. Almost as fun as surfing.

since when is swimming body building?
It's not. (See definition of word "related.") Ripper2 posted a thread asking if bodybuilders had trouble swimming as he has as he gets bigger and leaner. I concede to you, it's borderline as far as being appropriate for the anabolic board. (Obviously it's validity there was weighted toward your side and has since been moved.) I have no problem with that. I just wanted to make the point that the "Anabolic Discussion Board" is "A forum for anything related to bodybuilding," and not limited to the discussion of anabolic compounds.

no that isn't me. I just had to link a pic to illustrate what bodyboarding is, for the non-spongers. I have just gotten back into it and have an elemenohpee board. that mutha is FAST. trying to get back my dropknee form.
