how to go about getting STD test done

I have no reason to really be concerned.. I have no symptoms of any STD but I have never been tested. I figure I should just for general health reasons to be safe. Is this something you can just go to the local clinic and request, or should you make an appointment with your regular doc? I assume it involves just blood-work?

Also.. is there a test they run that tests for a wide range of STD's or do you request specific ones? I know nothing about this. Is it usually covered under insurance?

Just ask your regular doc if you are comfortable with that.

My first time I got tested years ago I went to some other clinic and paid like $75.. this was the subsidized rate for some public clinic... its free if you don't make any money.

But I have full insurance, and should have just had my regular doc do it, but for whatever reason I wasn't comfortable with that (maybe because his office is here at work!) but I have since gone back to my regular doc and had tests done.

They will take blood for HIV test, urine for some of the other infections.

Keep in mind you can't test for one of the most common STDs... HPV. I've asked my doctor about that, its pretty stupid that the most common STD is basically only diagnosed in women when they get an abnormal pap smear... when that happens the guy can basically assume they have it. What's even more fucked up is that you have it for life, and condoms don't protect against it fully!

thanks. reason i asked about going to a clinic is because i work for a healthcare company, so i basically work beside of my doctor which might be sort of weird. but if the tests are covered under insurance, I will just suck it up and go to the regular doctor then having to pay for the tests.

Yeah do that... the tests actually cost quite a bit, I saw what they billed my insurance, it was like $500!

I like to do it once a year, or before I start getting serious with someone and having unprotected sex.. just to be sure ya know?

But, If you have a normal STD trust me you will know it. When I was 14 or 15 I had my first girfriend and was having sex. She was a goody goody girl who swore she was a virgin. Well all of a sudden it starts to hurt like hell when I piss. So, I tell my mom. She tells me to come to the drs after school. (she works at the drs.) So, I ride my bike over and joke around with all the nurses etc. As soon as I get into the dr's office he says "who are you screwing?" I about fell over. I told him I was having sex w/only my girlfriend for over 6 months. He says "who else is she screwing?" I say "only me she was a virgin and loves me blah blah" He laughs and tells me the only way I could have got this was if she had sex w/someone else recently. And he told me "those nice religeous girls are the ones to becareful of." (of course, she denied it and I was an "ass" for saying it. But, I later found out she was banging someone else from her church.) Anyway, my mom and all the nurses knew about it and I was embarrassed. My mom made me load my bike in her car and sit there until she was done w/work and took me to get my script. embarrassing.

Incident #2. My next serious girlfriend I was about 22. We had gone out for almost a yr and wanted to have sex w/o a condom. Of course, I didn't want to bc I got "burned" before. But, after months of "you dont trust me" "you don't love me enough" etc. I agreed If we both got tested. We both were OK. So, about 7. months go by and guess what Awitty gets warts!!!! So, I goto the same Dr. He looks at it and knows I had been tested. And, says who was she screwing? I like bitch say she is so in love w/me blah blah. he says "I hope you learn this time" Of course, I was an ass again for suggesting that she banged someone. But, I later found out she banged a so called friend of mine who also had warts. BTW it hurt like a bitch getting them burned off..

I have banged over 100 girls always wearing a condom with no problem. (strippers, 3-somes etc.)

But, I have had 3 serious girlfriend (who I thought were little princesses)they are teh only onse I did w/o a condom. And, 2 of the times I got a std!!

BTW, the 3rd admitted to not taking the pill so I would knock her up and she could live off my sorry ass.

My friend got one done and they told him that the urine test is quite frequently untrustworthy so they recommended the swab test. The swab test is basically where they stick a qtip in your urethra. Thankfully I have never had this done and don't plan on it any time soon.

there are clinics out there everywhere covered by the state and federal gov't to test people for free of charge for hiv and other stds. you can do an online search or maybe look in your phone book.

HIV is tested via blood test...Things like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are tested THE most accurately by urethral swab (a urine test "may" detect them, but not necessarily)...Other things like Epididymitis are tested mostly via physical exam...

Trust me, I have had plenty of these
