How to be more approachable.

Hey guys,
This summer i have this job lined up where i'll have to deal with manager's of other companies and essentially try to sell a product (a real good one) to them.

I know that i have to work on being more approachable, does anyone have any tips?

Don't ask people "WHAT?" when they come up to you, even if it's funny...(I thought this was funny but not everyone else did)

Don't look exasperated when they ask you something....

Try to be friendly even when you are sooo super busy you haven't had time to pee in 7 hours....

Some people don't realize how other perceive them, so even though you wouldn't consciously do any of this you may without realizing it....

Smile. :)

Whatever you do .. DON'T act like a salesman. Throw those madison ave approaches to selling that have been used for 50 years, and used by 99% of failed salesman away. No one likes someone who acts fake, with a fake smile and is a robot just "selling" them something.

Act yourself. Act human. People would rather buy from someone who's honest and REAL and acts normal, a friend -- then someone just spewing out a well rehearsed, hased-out, 900mph verbatim token sales line that you know they've spit out a billion times already.

And when you FAIL a sale -- LEARN from it. Don't be afraid to politely ask where do you feel the product or the pitch failed to convince you in it's benefits for you to warrant purchasing it?

Yeah thats some good tips, how about body language?
I try not to cross my arms, but where should i put them? behind my back, in front, on top of my head stretching back. scratching my ass?

all this being approachable stuff is kind of complicated.

that's the whole thing, be yourself.

if you learn to talk with your hands, then you don't have to worry where you put them. But at rest, clasped in front, is a fairly peaceful posture.

The only problem with being yourself is if people perceive you in a negative way (even if you didn't act rudely, etc).....then you can't be yourself.....and since everyone perceives something/one in a different way, it's very very complicated....
