How much to build a new box

How much do you'all think it would be for me to build a new box with around 1.5 GHz and such. It doesn't have to be a pentium. Preferably 128 ram or higher, at least 10gb HD, etc.. I have no idea how to do any of this but I'm wondering whether I should build a new box or just buy a whole new computer with monitor. I already have the monitor so if I can get around from buying the set it'd be better.

well, i'm not an expert, but you'd need these

tower
Hard drive
3.5 drive
video card
motherboard
CPU
RAM
CD drive

All that can run you about $400, if you want a pretty advanced system (advanced by my standards, that is. GeForce 2 Titanium vc, 60GB HD, 384 MB RAM, cd burner).

try pricewatch.com. a 1.4 Athlon/motherboard is $130, 40-60GB HD is $60, etc

If your not computer suave (mechanically) then simply get one of the Dell/Gateway discount systems for sub-$700. I personally build my own and use various sites to get the pieces parts from.

Here's a break down for a descent system (not perfect but better than a Dud/Crapway).

Prices from www.mvave.com

2Ghz amd athlon ddr (subtract $30 for 1.9, $60 1.8)
Asus a7n motherboard
512 ram
60g IBM HD (+$10 for 80g)
52xCD/16xDVD
Geforce4 video
soundblaster live
Case
TOTAL: $585

With some tweaking you could +/- $150 depending on your needs.
And please people this was just an example system for BP I know we would all change this for that or could get this piece cheaper over there...it's just a simple 1 site system. ;)

Good site ripped, it certainly helps the mechanically challenged when it's pre-built, plus those are better than Dud/Crapway.

Go to Fry's Electronics. They have boxes that come with everything except RAM and graphics cards for under 150 bucks.

Getting 256Mg of RAM and a sweet graphics card will put the total around 450 bucks.

When it's time to build a new computer, I go to www.directron.com and buy all the parts and put everything together myself.

This site has very cheap prices, and it has great customer service. Looks like its one o fthe cheapest sites out there. Correct me if I am wrong.
