How Much Protien at a Sitting?

I have heard (and read) many fitness experts say that your body can only absorb about 30-35g of protien at one time. Anything beyond that will be converted to glucose or pissed away in the urine.

Have you all found that to be true and how do AAS affect the body's protien absorbing capacity?

Also, how long should you wait between eating sources of protien so that you body can absorb it?

yeah thats right but with some people it might be more i would stick to eating every 2 to 3 hours and hjave a shake just before bed. if your bulking up i would have snacks between meals if you can manager it

Its an absolute myth that the body can only digest 30-35 grams in one sitting.

The more you eat, the more your body upregulates digestive enzymes to make use of the protien.

Look at all the biggest guys on the board -- and whats the common denominator -- they eat 60-90 grams of protien 6-8 times per day.

it's totally based on what you mix it with....If you mix it with a carb then you don't want to go too far over 50g or else it can cause digestion issues....If you take it straight with nothing then you can easily digest much more however, regardless your body is only going to take what it wants and needs at the moment and get rid of the rest which is why it's best to stretch it out over 6-7 meals so that it's utilized more effeciently...That's the short version....for it gets much deeper than that!

That is pure BULLSHIT.

There's a good article by Lyle McDonald on that too. Body can digest only 30-35g of protein? really? and what does the 'body' do with the rest?

Store it as fat? If so I would get someone theoratically eating just 500g of proteins a day with nothing else would be obese. NOT

Shitting it? So I guess you can eat just protein all day long in unhuman amounts and be as lean as a hell. NOT

BTW protein is 'harder' for the body to convert using biological process to end as fat adipose. anyway, so it's better to consume more protein than more carbs or more fat (usually that is)

Not to mention that gently processed proteins like micellar casein and milk isolate contain casomorphins which slow intestinal motility and increasing digestion. Nobody has done a study so any numbers given are pure BS.

I throw down 70grams in a shake multiple times a day. I don't shit it out either. My body sucks it up. I think the longer I have been working out the more my body can take in. If I have a meal replacement I generally do not go that high... not sure if its the carbs or what. Learn your body's response and go by that!
Good Luck

A person that weight trains can intake more protein than a person who doesn't and not have it convert to fat.....Regardless of what you read, your body is much more efficient than that depending on other factors. Such as the amount of essential fats and carbs in your diet as well as daily activities....Because if that was the case, I intake 55g of protein right after weight training and then intake another 60g about 2 hours later....Even when not juicing, my stomach stays flat! However if my room mate did that same thing, he would blow up like a balloon! So again there are many other factors that comes into play for just because someone wrote an article on it doesn't mean that he's dead on....Some say 1g of protein per 1lb is perfect, some say you need 1.5g and others say you need 2g! The reason being because some people need more than others and are only giving advice based on their experiences. Just like some people think that you can get essential proteins as a vegetarian and we are talking about doctors here, but that's not entirely true.....There are very important proteins that your body needs to rebuild itself that can only be found in a meat source!!! So we it comes down to the human body we can argue about it all day long, but again, everyone's body is different and what causes you to get fat, gain muscle, get stronger or what ever, doesn't necessarily go for my body!!

I try to limit it to 50g from a shake and 40g w/ginger root if it's from real food.

I'd say about 50g per sitting is about right. DT, did you notice a big diff when takin ginger root, I mean with gas and digestion related issues?

I did notice a diff, but it wasn't night and day...enough to keep using it.

I also notice a slight difference when using Ginger with high protein. The afstore has it on sale for $5 for 240 tabs cause they have a large stock of it. for a price like that get yourself some bottles.

I injest 160g of protein from 200g of CFM whey concentate powder every day and about the same g's from solid food. Half of that powder (80g of protein) goes into my post workout shake with 2 scoups of Celltech. Sometimes I get diorrea a little bit, but hey!

I once saw 280lb IAN HARRISON drink a 130g of isolate protein in his post workout shake and he didn't seem to mind it!

i dont see why theres is such a fuss. you cant really go too wrong with highish protein, even if your body does not take it up and keep it in the form of a protein or amino acid (either by using it to repair tissue, or adding it to the various pools of labile protein in the body) then it will use it as energy in a manner similar to that of your other macronutrients

i think the benefit of extra satiety after eating protein and the constant availability of protein for use in repair and growth more than offsets the harm of eating "too much" protein and having to metabolise it to a useable molecule - im thinking biochemical stress, using up of various cofactors etc, and kidney issues.

overall for a BBer, too much is way better than too little, and id rather make the error in that vein

ill be honest though, im a glutton...i often take in over 150 grams in a sitting ( ;) )

You must spread some Karma around before giving it to GoldenDelicious again.

SO TRUE!!!
