How much protein is too much?

OfimNedu

New member
I'm bulking now and I'm pushing 400-450g protein per day. How much is too much? I'm thinking in terms of kidney function.

i don't know about kidney dangers but i would say if you ate 30 grams of protien every 2 hours that would 8 meals per day (depending on how much you sleep) which would only be 240 grams of protein... i think 450 is too much. there is probabily a good amount of that being converted to glucose

I don't think it's possible to judge a protein intake limit, but if you take certain steps to prevent problems you should be fine:
Daily intake:
Cranberry extract
Ala (Glucorell-R)
Glutamine Peptides
Vit C
2 gallons of water

30-40 grams of protien at a time is the most you can use...... after that your body starts doing some weird stuff with it.

there are studies that back my statement but i don't feel like finding them again.

mr x might try to disprove it...at that point i'll go find a few

I have never seen any studies about a fixed amount of protein being the limit

it depends on so many factors.....

Please provide me w/ studies say that ALL PROTEINS IN HUMANS are DIGESTED AT 30-40g at a time. I'd love to see it....if you can, I'll eat my house.

DITTO!! Some 150 lb. geek won't assimilate as much as a 275 lb. monster. That's only 1 of MANY myriads of factors.

i'm too lazy.... but i specifically remember reading that after 40 grams of protien only blood glucose levels rose... there was no more amino acids per deciliter at 100g of protien than there was for 40g. and nitrogen balance was the same

i can tell you that the digestive system is one factor limiting how much protien per sitting we can take in.

and everything i read was assuming a person was not taking any drugs to change or improve the person's ability to use protien

Cut, that all depends on many things, from the type of protein to the type of person and the rate of nitrogen balance and the rate of gluconeogenisis.

you'd assume that if the person had just worked out hard the day before and needed extra protein for muscle repairs that they would absorb more too.

Totally irrelivant. Most bodybuilders and atheletes uses drugs that increase protien sythesis. So information that does not take that into account is worthless. Non-atheletes have no reason to take in large amounts of protien, so finding an upper limit for them is also worthless in practice. Who does that leave to benefit from your "infromation"? No one.

I split my intake up over 8-9 meals. Never higher than 70g in a sitting which is the PW shake. I take r-ala, 1g Vit C, 2 scoops Gplenish, and 1.5-2 gallons of water everyday.

All serious one's do. Sorry, but the idea that one can plays sports on a serious competative level without being a lab rat, is at best wishful thinking.

Bear in mind that being highly active increase the rate of digestion and the absorbsion of nutrients eaten. Thus atheletic individuals would be able to absorb more protien, and at a faster rate, than sedentary individuals.

bro,

in all honesty. you take drugs.... right? are you a pro? no! if anything genetics play a bigger role than drugs do. and from looking at those pics the the drugs aren't working for you.

BBF is a good bro.....arent u the same guy that said you like to force yourself to puke?

wow this is getting heated..

and off topic.. first off if ALL serious athletes use drugs then I dont consider myself a serious athlete. So coming from a non serious althete who just drains his time away training because he doesnt use drugs I will say... I have heard both ways that there is a set limit to how much protein can be digested. I would assume there IS a set limit or at least repercussions of eating to much at once like with carbs ect I also think that to look at anyone who says i eat x grams in a day and say thats too much\little is not the way to go because people need differing amount of calories. Now if someone says i eat x grams and thats x % of my total calories then I think you can make a judgement on it. So what percent of your calories are coming from protein OfimNedu?

Depending on the definition of 'serious'. Although this type of dictionary defining sounds like the Clinton trials in the 90s, you really have to look at the specifics of some statements. To me a serious athlete is one which trains constantly and consistently, no a pro athlete. For those folks drugs are not always the way to go and more times then not, they don't use them.

However, most Pro athletes and I would guess this rate to be 100% in pro bodybuilding and somewhere around 95%++ in football, USE DRUGS.

btw...OXANDRIN, personal shots at how other people look are not going to win you any argument. I take them offensively especially when it's against another member of the board; next time I'll just start editing your post - please try to not take any argument to an insult level.

i am not taking shots at anyone....... just making a point.

what happened to ?

OXADRIN, you obviously don't realize what the average steroid user looks like, and how can you tell what I look like from old pictures. I'm currently 5'9" 215 9-10% bf, and have been working out just under 4 years. I don't think I'm doing too bad, should I be 250 at 5% bf at this point? Maybe I need to throw in some hgh and insulin. Thank you for pointing out that I am way behind schedule.

i'm trying to be natural and its hard for me to maintain what i was when i took gear.

OX, I can respect the fact that you are trying to do this natural. I want a physique that is simply unobtainable trough natural methods.
