How much protein in chicken?

Anakin

New member
I'm thinking that every portion of chicken I eat is like 80 grams of protein, easily, which might be more than I want.

I mean, look at the size of a friggin can of tuna. If that shit has 30 grams of protein, a chicken breast (half of a chicken's torso, to be precise) must have at least twice as much.

I buy a whole cooked chicken breast (that is the whole torso without wings or legs, it has the rib cage). How much protein in it?

Thanks and karma!

100g of tuna (canned, in water)
# 120 calories
# 25g protein

100g of cooked chicken breast
# 150 calories
# 30g protein

4.5oz tuna (albacore white after draining, 1 can)
157 cals
34g protein

4.5oz chicken breast
206 cals
39g protein

Go to your local supermarket, get a FOOD SCALE ($5.99) weigh the food and find out what does it measure in OZ. then it would be a factual number that can be given. Anyone can throw a number out there, but to be correct you need to provide the specific measurement.

Yeah I'll just get a scale, simple enough. Honestly though I think I've been eating like 100g of protein with lunch and dinner (everytime I eat chicken), which is way more than I wanted. It's the only food that I don't measure exactly though.

I agree with Mr X -- get a scale. I weigh all my food in oz & log it into fitday.com the nite before so I know what I'm going to eat during the day.

Some things you eat often enough you just know how much it weighs -- like the can of tuna after draining is 4.5oz.

My scale is electric and you can "tare" the bowl so the food weight won't include the bowl. Pretty neat.

im in the same boat....i think my protein has been WAYYYYYY to high in the past. like half my plate being meat sometimes...

what's wrong with eating lots of proteins ?

As long as you drink plenty of water ....
BTW the excess can be used as a source of energy like carbs

It really depends on the person's goals to define protein intake as too high; for some it's just not what they are looking for, so there is such a thing as too much - as w/ anything in life.

yeah but im using it for something i dont need protein for....there are by products of the metabolism of protein my body/kidneys must get rid of.....it just disconcerts me

plus its cheaper not eating all that meat! i have slowly reduced my protein intake as my protein tub seems to have quadrupled the amount of protein in 1 scoop, i lost a little size but so good so far :)

lol, im still getting above 1g/lb bodyweight, its just when friends call your stomach a 'graveyard for animals' you do start to think :)

just to pick your brain, how much protein do you think is too much in one sitting (if there is too much) and how frequent should the meals be

ive seen an article where the researcher seemed to suggest it didnt ake the slightest bit of difference how much you ate in one sitting or the time between meals, but he didnt back it up with any evidence, whats better in your experience?

There is a bit of a difference in digestion times w/ proteins no matter the bioavailability. I usually suggest at least 2hrs between meals (yes mainstream) but also high fiber intake to decrease the undigested leftovers so to speak.

I don't think having animals in my stomach would bother me personally, but overall I see where you're coming from.

thanks! i do the 2hr thing
