How much protein do you ingest at one time?

How much protein do you ingest at one time? Whether it be shakes, bars or food etc......

Also how do you split it up throughout the day?

The reason I ask the first question is because I read some where that the human body can only digest 40g of protein per meal and the rest is wasted.

And with the second question I want to make sure I am utilizing all this protein I take in throughout the day with 6 meals
 
the answer to the protein at a certain time thing is STILL UNKNOWN BY SCIENTISTS-I try to get protein every 2-2+1/2 hrs-sometimes 90 grams at a time sometimes less-you can't go wrong by taking in as much protein as you can in a 24 hr period
 
Your body in one sitting can only digest 40 - 50 grams anything more then that is wasted. Whey protein doues digest faster then most other so you can take it every hour 1/2 meat, egg, and milk take a little longer so I'd wait every 2 hours. The important thing to remember is that your kidneys are takeing a beat'n with the more protein you take in so drink plenty of water. I'd have to disagree with diamonddiceclay 90grams at one time is way to much.

Justin, your saying that the body can only digest 30g every 3hours? BS! That would mean that you could only take in 240g a day.
Maybe thats the case with some 130lb scrub, are you really trying to tell me that a 250bb can't digest more.
 
Not necessarily...various research shows that the body can physically digest around 30-40 grams of protein/sitting, but that doesn't mean the rest is crapped out or wasted. It just means given a 2-3 hour period upon ingestion, it gets through that much. The rest is uploaded through the body and if your muscles need it, will use it up accordingly throughout the day. Muscles don't immediately take in protein as much as they do carbs and aminos specifically. Try taking around 50g every 3 hours without fail. The more gas, the less you need. But at first with an increase like this it is expected. Give it about 10 days, if your body settles down, consume more per sitting, if not drop it down 5g/sitting.
 
I usually don't go over 35g between all sources of a single meal - then six meals a day usually.

I don't think I'm always at the 210g / day that this would provide -it all depends. But, that's usually what I shoot for.
 
I ussually go 40-50. The problem for Whey it is digested so fast the body does not have time to absorb it. Great biological makeup as far as amino's, but it runs through you so fast. Egg albium is what all other protiens are guaged upon. I ussually mix mine with milk for casienate to help slow down digestion and hopefully take a greater advantage of the whey. Of course I feel none of the supplements have as good an advantage as real healthy food. But who has time to sit down and eat a healthy meal 6-7 times a day.
