just got some glucosamine/chondroitin tabs. want to see if it will help with the damn knees. one dose (two tabs) is 1.5g of glucosamine and 1.2g of chondroitin. How many doses a day should I take? i'm 300 lbs @ 18% bf. i also just started taking MSM, 6g/day.

I don't take it all the time, but I take it with cycles. I am about 220lbs. and I take about the 1.5g of gluc and 1.2 of chond per day. It takes about a week to really ease things up. Everyone is different. I gave some to my dad and it took him four weeks to start feeling relief. You might want to do three tabs and see how you feel after a couple of weeks. You might be able to get by on the two.

There is no doubt that the stuff works with me. It is like a miracle supplement for my shoulders.

racer, thanks for the input. i'm glad to hear it helped you. i was thinking of doing the 1.5/1.2 dose 3 x per day. thats a total of six tabs. think thats too much?

I don't know if that is too much. I am not sure what the side effects are for that dose. My grandma takes it as well (can you tell I like it) and she has bad arthritis and she only takes about 2g and 2g per day and she says she is much better. I had my other grandpa on it at 3g and 3g for a month a he didn't feel a difference. Of course, they removed several of his teeth without any anesthetic you make your own call there.

I would start off around 3-4 tabs a day and see what happens. If you are really in bad shape you may want to talk with a doc about getting one of the new cox-2(not sure on sp) inhibitors.

Sorry that I can't help much there. I am 30 and the 1.5/1.2 works very well for me. If I am going to max bench (which rips me apart) then I bump it up a bit for a week before and a week after, but nothing major.

Make sure it is glucosamine sulfate, not glucosamine HCL; stick at 2 grams per day. Same with the chondroitin. Both have long half lives, so 1x dosing is fine. Be aware that too high of ingestion of glucosamine sulfate has been linked with increased insulin resistance (however, I haven't seen too many studies to support this). I tend to go heavier on chondroitin for this reason, but medically studied dosages are in the 1500 - 2000 mg range for both compounds.

If you want to add to the stack, add in 10 grams hydrolized collagen per day, again 1x dosing is fine. Also, add in niacinamide at 1000 -1200 mg/day over 4 doses.

racer and machine:

thanks so much for the info. i will back off the dosage. i'll just go 2g/2g and see what i notice. i have been on vioxx in the past and it worked great for me, but i'm looking for something else. i was pretty addicted to the vioxx. i was taking 100mg a day for like 10 straight weeks. if this gives me some results, then i can just save the vioxx for the really bad times.

You're welcome buddy. I am glad TheMachine came in with some facts. I just it at moderate doses and I know it works for me.

Good luck!
