How much is too much?

New to the forums, so first off hello. 8)

I've been bulking for months now, without doing any kind of cardio. The only problem is, I'm getting a gut from all the bulking on top of weekend drinking. I'm in class most of the week and work at a desk Part time, so I don't get very active outside of the gym.

Should I just ignore the gut for now and keep on bulking or throw in some cardio to keep things in moderation? I'd hate to spend all this time bulking and end up burning off some of the muscle just trying to slim the stomach. Right now I'm 6'2 and 195, but I could definitely see myself at 185. I'm thinking about bulking up until near summer then do some cutting so I don't have a gut for the summer. =p

Any opinions would be great. 8)

Well, the drinking is doing positive for you ...

You can bulk by eating a little cleaner too, but gaining some fat is almost inevitable.

stop drinking on the weekends. I too was bulking and have a job where i just sit on my ass, so i decided to start running sprints 3x a week, that way i didnt have to drasticaly change my diet but still be able to bulk. Like From Zero said, just eating clean can minimize the fat gain also.

Yeah I know I need to cut the drinking out. That's obviously not helping any. I have a pretty good diet, mainly consisting of protein and fiber. A friend of mine does sprints, I might pick that up and see how that works.

Cheers for the replies. 8)

Should add a little cardio in just to help the weight workouts, When I cut out all cardio I gain faster but my endurance goes to shit and I put on a lot of unwanted fat

Actually you should try it for a while. Still go out to the clubs and stuff but just drink water, or coffee. Back in the eighties my buddy and I tried not drinking in the bar mostly just to see what it would be like around a bunch of drunks when you're not drunk, but as it turned out it was interesting.

We found that whenever a woman asked us "So, whatcha drinking?", and we'd say "water, or coffee, or whatever" she'd immediatly become really interested in us cause we were obviously not being a part of the "crowd". Likely we weren't drooling all over her either talking "drunk-talk", or bar-yelling and stuff. We got laid ALOT from not drinking for a while. But then again, that WAS the eighties (hell if you didn't get laid during the eighties you were either too young, too old, or just looked like you'd been set on fire and put out with an axe.)

One word of caution though. Since you are sober, you do have to "dumb down" your conversation by the time 1:00am rolls around. Try not to let loose with any conversation starters like "So, in this political climate, do you think that this Reaganomics stuff will fly with the opposition?"

You'll get beat up.
