How much does music affect training?

I notice a lot of people at my gym that wear headsets and such. I don't really care for the gyms music but I do notice that when a hard hitting song comes on [Metallica for e.g.] I seem to get more into what I am doing. Actually its wierd when I hear types of music I feel unstoppable and get more focused into what I am concentrating on. I guess another benefit to mp3 players, cd players, or whatever it is you bring to the gym is that you can ignore all of the hoopla that is going on around you. I'm just wondering if this is true of just in my head? Any thoughts?

I have to have music.
more importantly music i like.

Trained at a "fitness centre" that had ACE OF BASE and C&C MUSIC FACTORY........it was the worst work out ever.

I have been to that gym with a walk man and had much better sessions.

I dont think it affects my lifts.......just gets me in the mood and gets me keen.

All music is about giving you a sence/mood/feeling.

that's how my gym is ,the music sucks,so i got a walkman and it's just better to me to train to music i like...brings the attitude out

i am currently looking for a new gym because they switched to some satellite station that plays constant 20min long technocrap songs... i don't ask for much out of gym music... some variety and some lyrics.... techno doesn't offer me either...

they'll SOMETIMES switch the station for me and then some gay guy (nothing against them, except for the fact that they are the main demographic of my gym and this seems to be their music of choice in my area) will go ask them to switch it back

yesterday they switched the music when i asked, then some guy went and asked them to switch it back... i'm not sure if its the station or what, but the techno crap is about 10 volume levels louder than anything else, so when it switched it blasted... i was in the middle of a heavy squat set and almost dropped the weight on myself... that shit is NOT funny... dangerous and stupid... i hope someone gets hurt and sues... should have known better than to get involved with bally's ... damn commercial gyms... just let them try to hold me in my contract... i think i have a pretty damn good legal case since i have witnesses to the incident and i've complained many times about the new music and the volume...

i just wish this place wasn't so damn convienent for me...oh well...

Whatsup bro? I would definitely say that music plays a big role in how intense my workout is. I like to listen to rap or alternative or rock or something along those lines. Relatively fast and VERY loud. I workout in my basement so I can listen to whatever I want, as loud as I want really. Somehow it really helps me focus..

In my gym I have to bring a CD belt that I listen to my discman on that keeps me pumped up..
:D:D

Psyche for me can make ALL the difference in the world on heavy sets (and I train heavy most days) and nothing does it like some DOWNSET!! Crank it!!!

Emotion plays a big part in training, and music can stimulate it. I get to choose what music is played at my gym.
Did anyone say lab 4:D

You like downset, heavywear?
I sort of liked "do we speak a dead language?" but not that much.......maybe one or two tracks.
do you get into other hardcore?

To me music makes a huge difference in intensity of the workout. When they play some 80s hevymetal I´m sweating so much I could bring a desert back to life..

Cardio without good music = no cardio
