how much does brake pad replacement cost

Not to sure about Mercedes, but in general pads are pretty cheap. For an American made car you can get a set for about 30-50 bucks, give or take depending upon the make and model. If you go to a garage they will charge you almost double and about 50 dollars worth of labor. For example, if you go to a garage, the range for the front brakes (pads only) is about 80-150 bucks including labor. However, they will start with all this other BS about sanding the rotors or changing them outright. Thats how a $100 job goes to about 250 bucks. Don't bother spinning them becuase they are already thin enough as it is. Brake jobs are a notorius ripoff at most garages. If you go in for one of their advertised $79 brake jobs, they will almost always try to sell you new rotors along with the pads, even if it is not neccessary. Best to buy the parts yourself and change rotors along with pads when necessary.

We're both going to whistler, I posted this at 11pm so first thing in the morning is i'm gonna go fix it up. Take my car with my friends and then he will meet me there with his friends and his car. That's why it was kinda important cause he gets back on friday.

You're full of shit.

If the rotors have any wear or grooves, they need to be turned on a lathe or replaced, period. Brakes are a safety feature, you don't compromise their service to save a few bucks. If the pads are worn down to the backing plates ("metal on metal") then turning or replacing the rotors is a certainty.

If you're dealing with a reputable shop, they'll measure the thickness of the rotors to see if there's enough material left for them to be turned while still meeting the minimum thickness spec listed for the particular model of car. Otherwise a replacement will be necessary.

The price for rotors can vary wildly, depending on the car. When I was a mechanic back in the 1980s, Fiat and Volvo rotors were $9.00 - $15.00, and BMW ones were $50 - $75 each. Our shop didn't do Mercedes Benz, but I'd guess them to be on the high side.

I find these days the quality of rotors are not as good and most the time just forget about turning them and slap some new ones on.

Also if the pads are down to metal on metal its a good chance your rotors are heat warped and once they are theres no way to fix it so best get use to pulsing brakes or replace the rotors.

Good brake pads (Baer, PBR or even OEM) will be around $120 for a Benz. Could be more if you go for ceramic or ferro-carbon. Just dont buy HPS for a SUV, totally useless since they need to be hot to be effective.

i know for a Eseries benz, the pads are $50 for OEM..so roughly around that price... depending on the # of miles on the benz, say 40k, then time for new pads..rotors can go about 80k miles before new ones are needed...

usually if you take it some where, avg brake job is $200 for pads for the fronts...labor included.

Bah! Do it yourself.

I did it not knowing anything for my wife's ford - I did a little research, and put in Brembo rotors and Hawk ceramic pads, all for $140. You get to chose the best parts and learn how to do something in the process.

It's easy indeed as long as you aren't doing the calipers (bleeding these can suck...).
